Doctor Who

That's just nutty talk. Fairplay if he's not your favourite, but to say you've never liked him? Might as well say you don't like Who full stop. He is the Doctor.

Even when he was being flippant he pulled it off better than Tennant, especially as that is pretty much how Tennant is constantly.

can't argue with that

GIVE TRAILER DOWNLOAD LINK NOW. I'm going to watch it five times every day for the next week, and I'm going to masturbate to it every single time.

Indeed! I'm bloody pissed off that while for the last series the full trailers shown at the end of episodes were uploaded to the website, for this one all we have are cut down rubbish ones. I want to see the Dalek laser killing that man again, damn it!

edit: Thankfully where the BBC fails, YouTube delivers.

he's got something else - looks like a plunger thingy.

anyway - I'm stoked for next weeks. It's come round so much quicker this season imho - but there hasn't been the kind of build up that bad wolf had last year. It's going to be good tho.

Nah, I don't like him as The Doctor - never warmed to him. I think he had a period early on where he got the balance right, but then he just spiralled into being a nut all the time. There's nothing wrong with that per se, until you realise that it just ridicules and rips apart the stories. Which he did.

That probably didn't matter so much watching it back then, but watching them now, it's Tom that ages them almost as much as the special effects.

I know there's no obligation to post when you've spent aaages lurking, but I might as well. I was hammering Doctor Who a while back and the best I can say in terms of 'the best actor' is 'They're all really variable'. Tom Baker is great in City of Death and pretty poor in Revenge of the Cybermen.

Depends on the quality of the script more than anything, although I would say that.

Similarly Tennant's been great in the K9 one and not too great in many of the others (Still haven't seen 'Girl-Fireplace interface')

Good God in his heaven above! None of the Doctors have been "bad" but to not recognize the distance between Tom's version of Who and the others is mind blowing. He's the closest probably anyone will ever come to making the Dr an alien. His performances carry episodes that didn't have any other merit.

Boyatsea doesn't like Dr Who.

Goodnight Boyatsea, we never knew ya.

I'm a child of the 80s, Dot. It was Davison I watched first - he was my Doctor.

Same here. I've never liked Tom Baker much - I'd place him behind Troughton, Davison, Eccleston and Tennant at least and probably McGann too if we're allowed to count Big Finish.

Or rather Tom Baker is great in City of Death, whereas Revenge of the Cybermen is incredibly poor and Tom Baker is the only good thing in it.

I enjoy Baker in even his worst stories. They're always worth watching because of his characterisation of The Doctor. No other Doctor can boast that, certainly not Tennant. Sometimes he makes me cringe.

Anyway, since he's been in the role a while now, I reckon I can slot him in:

Tom Baker

Peter Davison (so we nearly agree on something Boyatsea) :(

Patrick Troughton

William Hartnell

Chris Eccleston

David Tennant

Sylvester McCoy

Jon Pertwee

Paul McGann (if he even counts)

Colin Baker (The Sunderland of Dr Who)

Oh, and I grew up watching Davison too. Baker trumps him.

Poor old Colin!

I quite like Colin. He was never really given a fair run, but I always liked his relationship with Peri, because he was always a bastard and she was almost always on the verge of tears.

Colin's performance in the BF audios is... interesting. He's wildly popular at Outpost Gallifrey because they've "toned down his performance" and "made him the Doctor he always should have been".

To my ears he sounds like a blander version of Davison's Doctor. I don't like his audios at all. Mind you, at least you don't have to look at his jacket. :(

So many things wrong with Who at that time it does seem unfair to pin all the blame on him. But...he was awful. For one thing he just looks bad, regardless of his awful costume. The Doctor doesn't need to be good looking, but "interesting" helps. Colin just had a fat face and curly hair, especially after he seemingly spent the entire 18 months Who was off air eating pies.

And his take on the character was dire, a poorly handled unstable psychopath at first, who then turned into a sort of constantly indignant, shouty Hartnell. Just imagine him enunciating the words "Sabalom Glitz!" and cringe along with me.

Only good C. Baker story is Vengeance on Varos. The only one.

Say what?

Always at the bottom of the table.

Would fetch a packet on eBay, that.

He had some stunning credits in his first series, mind. Loved the opening credits used in Tom Baker's last season through to Colin's first.

Nah, I don't agree with that. I think that was one of the areas he did quite well - switching from tame to full on angry at the snap of a finger. You never really knew how he was going to react, and you were never quite sure he had the best of intentions, either.

I think with better writers and more money, he could have made a very interesting Doctor.

And the credits during Trial of a Timelord were probably the worst. Those or the McCoy ones.

You're right there. Awful set of credits for Trial.

But I don't mind McCoy's ones. The music is a bit tame, but I remember being impressed with the graphics as a kid.

Maybe. But that didn't happen, so he remains the worst Doctor. I mean, who is worse than him? (and don't say Tom, or I'll know you're just trying to be provocative) :(

Even the cheesy wink?
