Doctor Who

Incidentally, going back to this past episode...

When was the Doctor a dad, exactly?

Weren't William Hartnell's first assitants supposed to be the Doctor's grandchildren or something (which would mean he would have had children at some point, although that itself was never referred to, was it? ((until now at least))).

edit: Beaten to it by Boyatsea.

It's obviously a reference to EastEnders. They're not suggesting Peggy Mitchell exists in Doctor Who's world, FFS.

Because he's not a pompous videogaming geek, and he probably realises that the majority of Who's audience watch EastEnders, too.

;)

Ooh, you bitch!

You're right of course. I just don't enjoy that element of Who. Perhaps if it referenced something I adored I'd feel different.

No harm intended. ;)

I think last year's Bad Wolf was perhaps a little over-the-top, but I think for many non-rllmukers, it was one of their favourite episodes.

first episode of the two series that I thought was proper rubbish - I was bored by the whole thing and I'm now - officially - fed up with Rose. Glad to hear she's leaving the series.

Tell tale deaths in the trailer - but, we haven't seen anything to do with the daleks at all in this series, it seems strange to bring them back if they do.

LOL!

PS. The pop culture crap is far and away the thing I dislike most about the new shows. "I'm a chav", "...Christmas in Albert Square" etc. No need for them. Dr Who should be referenced not be referencing.

No no no no no.

The "Christmas in Albert Square" line was the funniest this year. It doesn't matter that it was referencing EastEnders - there's no need to get high and mighty about this. It was just a funny line, in a series full of funny lines.

Seen it have you?

If you're suggesting that the Tardis lands in Albert Square, somehow suggesting that EastEnders isn't a soap, then you'll get a full apology from me.

Unless it's Children in Need.

Eastenders is good, stop complaining, I would prefer Corrie.

Real men explain why they don'nt like easteneders but they cannot.

Still nothing beats the street.

I won'nt wacth Doctor Who without Billy P, she is the modern day british Marlin Manroe.

They're lazy lines. That's just the truth Ruth.

Eh?

There's nothing lazy about referencing another TV show. The humour doesn't come from the reference itself; rather from the actual joke. Just like any other joke, funnily enough.

It was a funny line. Don't be so grandiose about it.

Ahh, the black Dalek! Ever since the BAFTAs, I've wondered why that existed. Hope you're right! Maybe Torchwood are trying to use it as some kind of weapon against the Cybermen?

EDIT - Not so sure about that now. The shape doesn't look right, on second look.

Fear Her was shocking, possibly the worst episode since Who returned. Although New Earth and The Long Game were pretty bad.

Next weeks trailer though... ;)

You're joking, surely. This was nowhere near as bad as The Long Game, New Earth, Rise of the Cybermen or The Idiot's Lantern. In fact I thought it was quite a decent episode. It was the first one in ages where I haven't actively despised Rose, too.

Not much to add about tonight's episode really. Thought it was ok - entertaining, but not one of the best. I think I'm just getting really sick and tired of stories set in fucking London to be honest*. Even Jon Pertwee's Doctor seemed to manage to see a bit more of the country - and he was stranded here! I really hope that, for series 3, we get more stories set away from Earth. They don't have to be big special effects jobs - just set them on spacestaions or somesuch - but for Chrissakes get away from London for a bit.

Also, I'm hoping we get a nice teaser trailer for Torchwood when this series ends.

* Although I'll make exceptions if they're great, big, bombastic, efforts like next week's looks to be. ;)

To make it simple, if Russell T. Davies wrote it, it probably wasn't a funny line.

I have no problem with the referencing of TV shows and so on and so forth. No problem at all. Doctor Who's always been steeped in British popular culture. Didn't The Master used to get pissed off by those noisy Beatles boys? I'm sure he did.

It's stuff like the "I'm a chav!" line that I detest. Bad, lazy writing. Stuff that makes no sense at all. Stuff that the character in question WOULD NOT say. Stuff to get a quick chuckle from middle-class middle-England.

OOF. There's a nice one.

One other thing in the trailer - there's a shot of the TARDIS stood next to an Egyptian sarcophagus. Maybe a nod to Pyramids of Mars? Couldn't tell if it was the same as the one that led to Sutekh's prison though (which I presume was destroyed in the house fire anyway).

It was in The Impossible Planet, I believe. So that would make it a Matt Jones line, and therefore funny. Apparently.

I don't buy the 'lazy' comments though, simply because it references EastEnders. (I'm not talking about you, by the way, Lime.) I think that's just supposed intellectuals trying to pass judgement simply because they personally wouldn't do it. There was nothing 'lazy' or even obvious about the 'Christmas in Albert Square' line itself - not in the context it was used. It was something a witty person would just come out with.

That's probably how it found its way to the script, to be honest.

And I don't give a fuck if it made me laugh. Which it did.

God, I hate working on Saturday evenings. I'm going to do everything I can to get the final episode night off. Even if it means hijacking one of the tellies at work and telling everyone around me to fuck off for 45 minutes, I'm not missing the end.

Just got back home. Fairly drunk.

Tonights (on 1 viewing) is the worst Dr Who I've ever seen.

This opinion may be revised. But I doubt it.

Oh come on now, I'll wait until you've sobered up, but this was, at worst, a 'decent watch'. Helped by the fact that that rather nice looking lady from Nathan Barley was in it.

Best episode of this series (so far) was School Reunion (TRUFAX, is that right?)

Worst were those ones with the Ood *runs*
