Doctor Who

Bugger - this from a webchat today with Stephen Fry:

I hear you have written an episode for the new Doctor Who. How did that come about and what can you tell us about the episode?

Ah, now, unfortunately, I've had to pull out of the Dr Who gig. Lack of time. I just couldn't find three minutes to string together. Barely enough time to go to the lavatory these days, let alone take on new projects. Sorry about that... Russell T Davies has been very understanding...

I dont see what he does in his life to be so busy. Besides QI and read the harry potter books.

And explains why he was sacked.

I know you were joking, but she wasn't sacked: she gave it up a few month's ago because Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen and her other clients would think nothing of ringing her up at 3am for a chat like she was their best mate, but she never had any time for her young kids. I don't really know her myself, but our children are friends.

I'm a little bit worried about this one. I prefer my Who serious, with light-hearted moments. Not a "silly romp" with the Doctor playing a cameo role. But I'll remain open-minded for now.

In the words of that review:

If every episode of new Who was like this, quite honestly, we'd be livid. But as a one-off, it's a guilty pleasure.

RTD can be hillarious when he wants to be ("Oh hang on, that's The Lion King" etc.), and it should make for a refreshing change from the doom and gloom of The Satan Pit.

Had a wierd Who moment last night.

Was listening to Orbital- the middle of Nowhere whilst awaiting my train, and track one Way out is playing and about halfway through I start hearing the TARDIS materalisation sound in the background, (I almost did a double take and looked around in case I'd ended up in TV land  ) and it continues through the track.

Now I've had the album since it came out ,but I never noticed it before. Most peculiar.

Just heard on the radio that Billie is leaving Dr Who at the end of this series. I thought it had been reported previously that she'd signed up for series 3?

I have a feeling the prodcution office are playing the media at the moment, to keep us all guessing about the Season finale.

There was the line in Sat's episode about Rose dying in Battle. Least the press havent ruined it this year like they did with Eccles Regeneration. Which I still think would have been a historic TV moment last year if it had been kept under wraps.

EDIT: Actually it seems there's now a press release confirming this, however I'm still taking it with a pinch of salt. I do think companions should change quite often though.

Male companion next then? I think a sarcastic, witty, toned, 31 yr old male companion should suffice next time  I'll pop down the studios to audition if they want :)

I reckon this has been on the cards for ages. In the very first episode of OFI Sunday (which just happened to be on) sometime last year right around the time the rumours started, Chris Evans began his interview of Piper with "So why did you decide to quit. . " Cut to look of absolute horror on Billie's face before Evans finishes with something like "music".

Yeah. What I meant was, they've done a much better job with it than with Eccles. It's only The Sun that's meant they've had to break the story. Like Cassidy says, if no-one had spoilt the regeneration it would have surely been one of the acest televisual moments in a loooong while.

It really does make you wonder if the BBC release this info to hype up the end of the series. What am I saying, of course they do!

It's a shame Billie's going though IMO, maybe the new companion could be Adric, not really dead after all?

God help us all ;)

I don't quite understand how the BBC have announced she's quitting at the end of series 2, when previously she had her season 3 deal widely reported... by the BBC.

I reckon

Speculation for end of S2

Summat happens to Billie at the end of S2. Doctor thinks she's dead but she isnt shes just lost in time/space, cue Season finale...

Doctor spends half of S3 searching for Rose, but picks up a new companion or 2 in the interim. Finds Rose and she aint happy with his new floozy.

Or she is dead but appears as some sort entity in TARDIS throughout S3, or even as a phsyical representation of the TARDIS, due to her actions at the end of S1.

Those are some great speculations Cassidy. We'll all watch as the BBC turns up the hype machine (and Murray Gold's synthesizer) to 11.

;) at the Murray Gold comment, although I did love his work on the last 2 eps.

My money's on the latter one happening though. Call it a hunch :D

or she's banging Capt'n Jack...

Actually that would be a nice crossover into Torchwood that would, with Rose taking a job with them, I mean she has the past experience.

Capt Jack is back in series 3, isn't he?

Possibly?

Spoilers for Torchwood

We know he's at Torchwood due to the location of the Time Rift(whatever it is ) in Cardiff and therefore more likely that the Doc turns up there at some point to charge his TARDIS, and it is rumoured he will be in S3
