Is anyone else finding the announcements for the new RTD stuff really exciting?

I have actual hope for the future of the show and it feels great as I thought it was at a point of no return.

It's amazing. Our new Doctor is a black man. Is he gay as well? I'm not sure but his dress sense is amazing :). Yasmin according to wikipedia is trans which is a double win. Especially if she's going to be the new companion going forward.

Rusty hitting the ground running and giving zero fucks. I love it. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about Doctor Who. I loved 12 but he was let down by what I feel was Moffat running out of steam but he still got some all time classics in his run. I really liked Jodie but apart from the shock reveal of the equally amazing Jo Martin Doctor she got pretty much nothing to work with. Chibnall utterly failed her and that's a damn shame.

Speaking of Jo Martin I can't describe how angry I am that she's pretty much been dropped from the show going forward. How do I know? They're already making comics and Big Finish audios to fill in the gaps. That  tells us that even if Rusty goes in that direction for any stories it won't be with Jo. Or these side projects wouldn't have been greenlit so quickly. What a waste. Still. Maybe one day.

I once had a dream where I met up with my good mate 12 and expressed annoyance that I had to wait all week for the next episode. The man literally hopped in the Tardis and went into the future to get me an early copy. What a proper gent. Splendid chaps. All of them. Even the ladies

To be honest, although I enjoyed the actual show, I hated the direction RTD took the series. Far too many world effecting stories that everyone in the world knew about. Much preferred the "secret invasions" of older Who, which Chibnall mostly returned to. I think what we (I) need is RTD showrunning but Chibnall or Moffet "grounding". Not everything is Daleks capture all of humanity/Cybermen capture all of humanity/The Master captures all of humanity. Small stories on Earth, big stories on other planets.

So RTD returning is a step back for me, and although I like Tennant's Doctor, and I get it's the 60th anniversary so it makes sense for that reason, having him back just overshadows the new guy who the press have already forgotten about thanks to the Tennant news.

I'm also concerned that having blown open the Doctor's past RTD will just ignore all that and we won't see the Fugitive Doctor - or other early incarnations - how was intended.

The RTD run had plenty of smaller scale stories though. It was mostly the series finales where things got a bit silly, and in between we got a great show released mostly to schedule, along with a bunch of spin-offs. He also wrote absolutely brilliant characters with depth. There's a reason that spoiler a few posts up has such an effect on people.

I wasn’t fussed on a lot of RTDs output but as a writer he’s so far above Chibnall just by dint that he can write characters who at least feel like people and not just exposition machines.

No matter how duff I thought his episodes were you can’t deny he did a hell of a job as a show runner, taking a series that was considered a national joke at the time and turning it into a phenomenon. Since he’s gone into hype mode there’s been more public excitement and press coverage than there has been in years.

Under Chibnall it’s felt like the end of the McCoy years and it was circling the drain again. I feel sorry for the current cast as there’s pretty much zero excitement for their farewell and just a sense of let’s just get it over with and put this era behind us.

I think we're about to get something really special. For the first year at least RTD will basically be given carte blanche to do whatever he wants, he's at the height of his powers coming directly off the success of Years and Years and It's A Sin and he's already saved the show once. This will be his one chance to go all-in with his vision for Doctor Who, and he's going to really seize that opportunity.

Actually it feels like he's playing everyone already - this week everyone's talking about David Tennant, and the spluttering gammons so far seem to have largely missed the fact that he's just announced the show's first trans companion. I looked at the replies to the BBC twitter post, expecting the worst, and it was 99% unbridled joy from LGBT Doctor Who fans. Just fantastic to see.

In fact the only problem is we've got one more Chibnall shitfest to go, just to take the wind out of everyone's sails. At least we get a regeneration, I suppose.

I can't see anywhere that says the new Rose is the same character as the "old" Rose. If it is, that's fucking stupid. But if it isn't, the name is just clickbait, so also fucking stupid. Basically, fucking stupid.

My guess is that it's a parallel timeline Rose?

Strange New Worlds appears to have broken that cycle.

Shame it's not actually possible to legally watch it in the UK yet.

Anyway I'm only going to believe it's actually good when @Benny says it is, and not a moment before.
