Is there going to be a Doctor Who/Sherlock crossover?

I don't recall this being a thing but I googled it a moment ago and found this http://www.cinemablend.com/television/Doctor-Who-Sherlock-Cross-Over-Here-What-Steven-Moffat-Says-71088.html

Now the reason this popped into my head as an idea, (I don't think I've subconciously absorbed it from elsewhere), is because there's an ep of Sherlock on BBC 1 tonight. Now because I lost track of Sherlock somewhere around S2, I had to google it. It turns out it's a re-run of the last ep of S3. Whilst googling for Sherlock I found out there's a Christmas Day special of Sherlock this year and the idea that Who also has a Christmas Day Special hit me between the eyes...

Along with the following text from wiki about the Sherlock Christmas ep

Christmas special[edit]

On 2 July 2014, it was announced there would be a special episode broadcast between the third and fourth series.[80] On 1 August 2014, it was confirmed that the special would air on Christmas 2015.[81] Filming began on 5 January 2015 and wrapped on 10 February 2015.[82][83][84][85] Moffat confirmed the episode is set in Victorian London saying, "The special is its own thing. We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it... It’s kind of in its own little bubble."[86]

Am I going mad or is Moffat, Doctor Who and Sherlock Christmas Day Specials plus potential time travel too many coincidences?

It's been done as a rather impressive fan film

If you read the article that I linked to then you'd know that I now know that.

But if you'd read that article you would've also read the following Moffat quote.

My instinct—and this is probably from years of doing Doctor Who—is I’m just such a tart. If people want it, we should give it to them. But I got persuaded by Mark, Benedict, Sue and Martin who said, ‘Look, it will never be as good as [fans] think it’s going to be.’ And then I say, ‘Yes but we’ll just bang it out and make it as good.’ Yeah, but you can’t give everybody everything they want all the time. But I’m in the camp of giving them everything they want! But I think they’re sane and right, and I’m just a tart.

The other half says the who/lock thing is nailed on, and she's known about it for months.

From reading the BBC website.

I think she's right and it's only just appeared on my radar.

I think Moffat's hiding stuff in plain sight again.

EDIT: The wiki quote also gives scope for it not necessarily to be canon but it's own thing and a bit of Christmas fun. I think Sherlock being on the same night all but confirms it (along with the 'time travel'). Bring it on!

So

River Song

Will be back for the Christmas special.

Can see that being divisive - some fans love her, some loved her then got fed up and hated and some always hated her.

All of time and space... and yet we get the same city on the same planet, the same three baddies and the same recurring characters again, and again, and again. Personally I can take or leave this particular character (I'm not a huge fan but there have been worse) but it just frustrates me that a show that could literally do anything it wanted to keeps on revisiting the same old places and the same old people.

I am a

River Song

lover.

I'm also seriously excited about the Sherlock crossover potential. I have two fantasy scenarios and I don't know which I'd prefer:

1. The two specials are scheduled back to back but this is just a ruse, and as we watch what we think is just Doctor Who it becomes apparent it's a joint special which runs through both slots without a break.

2. In the Doctor Who special, as a minor plot point or coda at the end, he delivers a disoriented and confused 21st century Sherlock (who is never shown clearly) to Victorian London for some reason that makes sense within the Who story. In the Sherlock special Sherlock comes round to find himself in Victorian London not really understanding how he got there. Within that story it could be a dream or hallucination but those who watched the previous programme will know better.

The advantage of 2 is that the crossover only matters to fans of both, and allows people who only like one or the other to ignore the crossover entirely. But the disadvantage is that it doesn't allow the two heroes to team up and spend the entire story trying to prove they're the cleverest. Plus it wouldn't allow Sherlock to say "elementary, my dear Doctor." Basically I think I'm talking myself into preferring option 1, which now I think about it would be like when the last episode of

The Dead Man segued into the first episode of Necropolis

in 2000AD and blew my tiny mind.

There's probably no need to spoiler a 25 year old Judge Dredd plot but as I say, I love

River Song

!

2000AD does do this very well

Loved Dredd smashing down the door/panel from his strip into the Simpering Detective strip in the previously unanounced Trifecta crossover

it likewise blew my mind

She was interesting when we didn't know anything about her. Then she turned out to have no actual personality beyond "flirty tryhard badass".

If WhoLock happens then we should prepare for the very real possibility of the next full DW series just being a repeating five-second gif of Moffat wanking into a Tardis-patterned tube sock.

I quite liked Moon Egg.
