I maintain that was a great ep.

Also if anyone's not read it I'm on my second go through The Writers Tale, a book by Russell T Davies and a journalist on Doctor Who Magazine called Benjamin Cook. It's written over the course of RTD writing the fourth series & David's last episodes and is the best book about screenwriting out there. I know series 4 wasn't exactly the show's high point but for me it explains why a lot of those episodes were how they were and gives a real insight into the process of writing a show like Doctor Who.

It's pretty much essential for anyone interested in either Doctor Who or screenwriting.

I kept reading the article and was overjoyed to see Christian Bale of all people calling out David O'Russell for being an arsehole to Amy Adams, and Ryan Gosling *really* wants to make a Bioshock film.

In other news, I caught a few old stories on the Horror Channel recently and HOLY FUCK, they are stunningly bad. City of Death seemed okay though.

+1 for this, it's a great read.

Chris Eccleston talking briefly (again) about why he left the show. Nothing really new, but he comments on what he thinks he did wrong in his own performance, and it's nice to hear him talking relatively positively about his time on the show, compared to how he's come across in some other interviews.

I never watched the show pre-Smith, so don't know any of the history about Eccleston. I thought he left due to the production schedule, but he says he clashed - who with? What's the story there?

It's never fully come out, but based on what little Ecclestone's said in the past he took serious issue with the behaviour of some of the production staff at the time. He left over a matter of principle.

As for the BF Torchwood news, I'm cautiously optimistic about that. Torchwood was an abomination by the time it finished on TV, but based on the amazing things BF did with Colin Baker I don't see how they can't turn Torchwood around too.

Private Eye (out tomorrow I think) saying that there'll be no Season 10 next year, possibly just some "specials".

Great. Just as it's starting to get some momentum, they go and piss about with the scheduling again.

I really wish they'd just move Moffat aside and give it to someone who can dedicate themselves to the job full time.

Not entirely suprising considering we had two split series in part because of Sherlock during the Smith era of Moffat's tenure. Explains why Sherlock's been shoved aside till 2016 too, with Moffat focusing on Capaldi's run for two full series.
