Doctor Who

Because the 'hole in the head' theory was all part of the dream.

So what did the dream crabs do to kill people? Anything? Why the urgency to wake up?

And how come the four books didn't contain the same words - because they were dreamt by separate people - but they spelt out sentences when put together? When a similar thing happened in Clara's dream it was the Doctor sending her messages, but the others were sleeping alone.

This is actually the same problem I had with Inception, it didn't quite all fit together the more I thought about it. I try not to poke at plot holes too much but a story like this needs clear rules/stakes and I found them a bit muddled, even with the Doc expositing stuff every other line.

None of the other people existed I think. At least at the end the doctor said something or other that suggested he was being targeted and Clara was targeted because of her relationship with him. Whatever the head crabs were and whatever they were doing I don't think any of the dream world explanations were completely accurate. I think once again the answers are mostly that it doesn't matter.

That's just how dreams work: our memories have gone to shit a bit and trying to read something (or look at a clock for time) isn't really possible. It's a trick used by lucid dreamers to check whether they are dreaming or not. Moffat did stole the "time goes progressively slower with dreams within dreams" stuff from Inception, but that is also based on the weird way time works in dreams. Just like that film it isn't actually like how dreams work, but close enough ultimately to be one of Moffat's clearer plots. The only plot hole was maybe the lack of holes in people's heads, but that can be explained by saying that the whole thing probably just lasted a couple of minutes in reality.

They did. He said the others were collateral damage so they did exist. They could have done an amazing episode reuniting people from the doctors past but...well...they didn't.

Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of a remarkable event. Yes: on 26th March 2005, the Burping Bin was broadcast to our screens for the very first time.

And no-one here bothered to mark the occasion! :(

(But strangely, all the post-broadcast discussion at the start of this thread is dated 28th March 2005... :sherlock:)

On her first day on set Maisie Williams said, “I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”
Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, added, “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”
