Doctor Who

Well! That epic Cyberman invasion of Earth! It turned out to be... er... a few Cybermen crying in a graveyard. Never has a Doctor Who enemy been so useless and so un-scary. And that includes Silver Nemesis.

The only part that I really liked was the Doctor and Clara in the cafe at the end, both lying to each other. That was a great bit of writing. Great way to finish with Clara.

Everything else... shit Master, shit Cybermen, shit UNIT.

Everyone talking about how awful that was and this bloody show needs better writing. Doctor Who finales are always the best time of year.

Put me in liked it/loved it camp by the way. Michelle Gomez is a wonderfull Master and this was easily the best use of the Cybermen since Earthshock. Unless someone would seriously want to say that Attack of The Cyberman and Silver Nemesis are better. To paraphrase Missy: go ahead and say something nice about that tripe.

Loved the big montage with the Mistress revealing that all of this was to merely show the Doctor that they're just the same. The only spoiler was the speech from Danny. The resolution in and of itself was fine by me, about as well set-up as you can get really. The moment Cyberdan the soldier man looked at himself through the mirror should have given away what this episode was going to end with. The big moment for me was how much the episode was indicting the Doctor for his behaviour through this season.

Loved the ending with Danny sending the kid back from the afterlife as well. After that much doom and gloom you some form of relief and- oh hey! It's Santa in what can only be called a sublime Moffat troll.

Hohoho!

I enjoyed it, but I already haven't taken it too seriously in years anyway. I don't think the grown ups are supposed to where the story arcs are concerned. It's the individual stories that can be meaningful here and there. (and there's been plenty this year)

Someone needs to add the mission impossible theme over the DOCTOR WITH KEY IN HIS HAND HEADING STRAIGHT TO HIS TARDIS scene though, couldn't stop laughing from that point on.

Not impressed with Master, right actor for it...just...not doing much. Terrible edit of the particular plane scene as explained above.

Sad end for Clara but I'm sure she'll be back by the time this Doctor regenerates.

Cyber-undead Brig should work for U.N.I.T.

It was three quarters of a good finale, the shine taken off by a few awful speeches, resolving the dilemma too quickly and the

Utter waste of a Master, if you are going to set up a recurring villain have them recur for a while, particularly ones unlikely to stay dead. And since when does a single Cyberman shot take out a Timelord?

I think the intent was to show her beaming away as the shot is fired, but it's not clear. The colour of the 'disintegration shot' looked like the transmat beam used in previous scenes. I would have expected The Doctor to have given a eulogy if she'd been dead.

God knows what people are whining about, that was pretty good, even if it did suffer a lot from a low budget.

It tied together a lot of the season's themes like the Doctor fears about himself and the idea of the general versus the soldier.

And anyone thinking Missy is really dead is an idiot. Remember what we were saying about there being no rules?

It reminded me of an RTD finale.

Not a good sign.

Every season finale is like that to me. The penultimate episode will be some sort of interesting premise, and then they spend the next hour and a half fucking brutalising it. I knew it would happen YET AGAIN, so it didn't really bother me much this time. I smugly looked at the television, hit play, and awaited 50 minutes of unadulterated shit.

I got everything I deserved.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I like that Gallifrey has been seemingly destroyed this time f'reals - likely by the Master. I thought that was quite a brilliant twist. It does totally destroy the whole thing about looking for it at the end of Smith's run, though.

There were TWO good episodes in the ENTIRE season for me. The Listen one was good, and the funky 3D people one.

It can't get any worse, surely?

I enjoyed that. Apart from Danny being a prick as usual. The prick. Love Gomez as the Master. Hate that Osgood now has no chance at being a companion. For that Moffat earns my eternal hatred.

Santa Vs Aliens for the Christmas special? I'm fucking in. C'mon guys. Nick Frost as Santa in Doctor Who at the North pole with elements of The Thing and Aliens? It's only the weirdos at Gallifrey Base he trolls. Everywhere else is expected to actually have an IQ. Roll with it.

Maybe Missy just deliberately gave him the wrong co-ordinates.

Absolutely..she was taunting him by giving him hope. And it ties in with the whole Doctor/Clara speech that followed it.

both of them lying about getting on with their lives..him Gallifrey..her Danny

That was a nice scene though.

Yeah,

She was just lying, basically. Gallifrey's still lost in another dimension, and had not in fact returned to its original coordinates. I think the Mistress would want it back just as badly as the Doctor.

I didn't think much of the finalé. The setup last week was brilliant, but I just thought this was daft. It also completely squandered the more interesting ideas from Dark Water, such as the dead feeling what happens to their bodies. It also fell into the RTD finalé trap of placing the entire world in peril once again, but whatever.

It did have its moments though. The reveal of the Mistress' plan being pretty awesome for one, but it was all resolved far too quickly. The last ten minutes or so were well done too, although

The bracelet being able to magically turn a digitised mind into a living person came out of nowhere, and seemed to clash with the idea of the Nethersphere being what it was.

As for Clara, I think she'll be back. Probably not for a while though.

I can't say I saw any budget issues. However, I would have traded a few effect shots* in order to have a few more onscreen extras as a physical presence. You really needed a few serious looking generals on the plane to show that the world was in crisis.

* The St Paul's roof & Tardis rising from the cloud looked cool, but didn't really add anything to the story.

Edit: Has anyone trawled through Wikipedia's Dr Who companion list and added reference to them being turned into a Cyberman yet? Jamie the metal man should be somewhere in the background.
