When I say best season in years mind you, I'm simply speaking script/story-wise. Whilst Capaldi is good in the role, it's not him that's making 2014 good, in my opinion. Same way I enjoyed Matt Smith's first season and then it became an increasingly complicated (or simply crap) mess.

Tennant's obviously had his time, but I'd happily have him in these episodes. Same for Eccelstone. Or Baker.

I remember there was a period of time when everyone was hoping the companion after Martha would be Sally Sparrow. She would have been awesome... but I suppose Carey Mulligan got too famous/legit around that time.

I rewatched Blink recently and I thought the male character was a bit of a proto-Rory.

You love the titanic special?

For me it's just the right blend of adventure, peril, cast and Christmas. It's length makes it feel more like a movie, too.

Nothing sophisticated or too meaningful, I'm a time lord scene is a bit cringey now, but it's one of those episodes that's just perfect family faire, like bumping into Bond movies on ITV on a bank holiday.

Just watched Flatline. Fantastic episode. New bloke has penned by far the best two eps of the series. Both cleverly conceived, nicely self-contained ideas. With loads of great character moments and dialogue in each. Looking forward to more from him.

And Capaldi is just owning it at the moment.
