Doctor Who

Come on. Danny just sat there moving his legs, Clara gave him a hug, the Doctor slightly leaned backward, the big, speedy, quadruped robot disappeared. Oh, the chair Danny waved about disappeared into the vortex but none of the other chairs moved. Maybe the field of force involves an inverse-cube law.

The robot felt a bit Children's Film Foundation (or Sarah Jane Adventures for our younger viewers), but that's what Dr Who is about.

It was good when it blasted the fat bloke into meat chunks like in Gears of War, though.

Edit - Partially related, but I've just seen the episode of Archer where he describes pounds as "Dr Who Money". That was one of the best Archer gags ever.

Miles behind you all, but have just caught up on the first two Capaldi episodes. My thoughts:

Capaldi is great. Already the best Nu Who doctor we've had.

Coleman is still shite. She never sells any of the situations she's in. She has virtually the same slightly raised eyebrow expression whether she's angry, or scared, or puzzled, or well, anything really. Get rid.

Can't hear the dialogue. Almost had to turn the subtitles on.

Both of the actual episodes were dreadful, only saved by Capaldi. The first one had some proper Scooby Do shit in it (pretending to be one of the robots), and the Dalek one was full of nonsense hand waving (How did they clean off all that gunk? How did they get out of the Dalek?). Just rubbish really.

So yeah. Capaldi - big thumbs up. Everything else needs to dramatically improve.

Completely bored by that one. I don't necessarily mind a monster-light character-heavy episode but there wasn't much interesting going on with the characters, and it wasn't tremendously funny either. And I'm ok with making the Doc a bit more alien and unaware of human customs but at the mo he's coming across as just a bit dim. Why didn't he tell Clara what he was doing? There didn't seem to be any reason behind it, just an excuse for some contrived hilarity.

The last episode banged on and on about how the doctor shouldn't prejudge Pink for being a soldier or dismiss him as a P.E. teacher - but in Pink's very first scene (in episode 2) he was introduced teaching P.E. - teaching special soldier themed P.E. - with everyone in specially printed soldier themed P.E. kit. Did he print these himself or did he turn up on his first day and get roped into this? Why didn't have a tantrum and spout his you're all so judgemental 'army soldier! be the best!' bollocks then?
