Doctor Who

Well after 900 years maybe he'd mastered lying. But probably not because that would break all the first question nonsense.

To be honest, didn't like that bit. The Doctor shouldn't ever be without a plan, even if it's to sacrifice himself to win. Plus given everything stopping him saying his name was gone, why didn't he?

I did like when he got the regens and became very 11ish after. Matt's regen was also really well done - breath on a mirror, hand waving, happy with a touch of sadness and Matt felt older than with the make up on. Really wish they'd given him a better script to leave on.

I always watch Dr who with my kids. They'll forgive dodgy special effects and wooden acting if the story is entertaining. They're 5 and 3 and they love Tom Baker eps. The last few matt Smith episodes has struggled to keep their attention. Plus I've given up trying to explain the plot to them :)

Not intended in any way to be a criticism of your parenting style, but do people here really watch (modern) Doctor Who with kids this young? My littlun is 4 and a half and I wouldn't dream of watching Doctor Who with him. I'd have thought it'd terrify the life out of him. There have been a couple of Matt Smith episodes (The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon springs to mind especially) which I think have really pushed the boundaries of what I would consider acceptable family teatime entertainment.

Matt's face has always looked ancient, it's one aspect I'll miss. Old but young and nearly always genuinely alien.

He does have an impressively odd bone structure - he's like a young Jimmy Hill with mad hair.

I wouldn't go as far to say he's always looked ancient. He looks like he's a sixth former on a school trip in the 5th series, particularly the first episode.

What was the point of the truth field anyway? What purpose did it serve plotwise?

It meant that the Cyberman believed the Doctor was telling the truth and it gave Clara some unexpected personality development. Both important points that help move the plot along.

Or, he thought it sounded clever when he writing the River Song wedding episode and later realised it was another plate he had to spin in the final episode.

on the Fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked — a question that must never ever be answered: "Doctor who?"

I get the impression that Steven Moffatt is obsessed with detail. Though I'm impressed he's tried to replicate the season-long story arcs of US shows, the time and effort involved requires an RTD-like person who can step back and take a holistic view of the story.

If you don't enjoy watching your children shit themselves whilst watching dr who like you used to then I AM criticizing Your parenting style.

Struggled to sleep last night and decided to catch up, I really, really enjoyed both specials, of-course flimsy plot-holes everywhere but I enjoyed the sentiment behind those ideas. The idea of the Dr defending a planet for 300 years against *everyone* is a pretty damn cool notion! And I thought it was a fitting way to finish Matt's stint. Definitely my favorite of the recent Drs and probably the best actor.
