Doctor Who

As I remember it they basically said yeah lets go home and didn't say anything to suggest that would be anything other than straight forward. The reason they didn't show them leave is because they wanted to finish on the Hurt Megaton.

That turned out to be a whole fuss over nothing as well. For all the hype about the War Doctor doing things the other Doctors wouldn't do they didn't actually show him doing anything that bad.

They thought he pressed the button and wiped out the timelords and the daleks. turns out he didnt.

Yeah I know, I saw it. Its just that they played him up as the Doctor that spent his life doing the things the others wouldn't and essentially he ran around doing pretty much exactly what you'd expect the Doctor to do the entire episode.

Aye, past episodes have always gone on about how he 'manipulated people, made people take their lives'. Of course it could speak of the doctor in general and not War Doctor but still, shooting a wall and bumping a dalek with the Tardis? Come on. Show the darker side of the character thats hinted at here and there. You had the perfect excuse to.

In my son's Doctor Who visual guide, it says that the war started because the Daleks discovered what the Fourth Doctor was ordered to accomplish in Genesis, which could add some extra guilt to his conscience. He didn't do it, which meant that he had to destroy both the Daleks and Time Lords during Hurt's tenure. Can't remember it being mentioned since the 2005 series though, so unsure of the accuracy of this.

I think Moffat has gone on record to say how Grade basically 'stole' a whole host of stories by cancelling the show. Of course, this doesn't quite add up, but I think it's great that instead of doing something differnt with a risky, sprawling war epic; they just did a really great episode Doctor Who. McGann got treated well by fan fiction, maybe so will the War Doctor?

So why did Hurt regenerate?

I took it as being simple age. When we see McGann->Hurt, it's a much younger Hurt we (briefly) see. I get the feeling he's been Hurt for a long time.

One thing that's always puzzled me is what exactly was timey-wimey about the so-called "Time War." There's been vague talk about it, but all we saw in the end was Daleks firing guns at Gallifrey, with nary a time travel device in sight.

the daleks didn't think the gallifreyan time lords should be so powerful, so they invaded.

its all a bit "clone wars" when one side actually used robots... Not clones.

Seriously, a race of demigods with absolute mastery over time and technology, and the best they could come up with to depict that were Starship Troopers outfits and stock laser gun sound effects.

Sonic screwdrivers don't work on wood or poo, so no it wouldn't, unless you just stuck it up there and tried to scoop it all out like trying to scoop nutella out of a balloon with a breadstick. I think I may have given this too much thought WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT STEPHEN MOFFAT CLEARLY DID NOT AMIRITE?

(Actually I really liked it.)

I loved Tennant's speech about "the Skaro Degradations, the Horde of Travesties, the Nightmare Child, the Could-Have-Been King with his army of Meanwhiles and Never-Weres" - that was really evocative. Call of Duty: Time Lords wasn't quite what I was expecting after that.

But then Matt Smith has been the Doctor for 400 years and he looks the same.

Indeed, which implies the war Doctor was around for quite a bit longer. He looked a lot younger after the eighth Doctor's regeneration, and as The Last Of The Time Lords showed to silly levels, Time Lords do age, just slowly. Do you think the first Doctor popped out of the womb as an old man? ;)

I do think that what we saw of the Time War was a bit unimaginative after the crazy stuff alluded to in the past, but then it was the very end of a war that had been going on for an extremely long time.

I think maybe people are trying to apply too much logic to something held together for decades by toilet roll inserts and sticky backed plastic. You're just going to have to accept that there's been too many contradictions for it to all even out in a sensible manner.
