Doctor Who

I have a vague recollection, somewhat bolstered by a wiki search, that The Valeyard is a bad version of the Doctor, from between the 12th and 13th Doctors. Now there is an off-by-one error in the numbering of Doctors, does that mean between Smith and Capaldi? Or will it be part of the post Capaldi regeneration limit reset story? I think the Valeyard got a namecheck last season.

I don't know how or why I know this, but the Valeyard was only a potential future version of the Doctor, rather than an actual one.

I think it'll feature in the Smith>Capaldi episode. Otherwise why mention him?

Peter Capaldi is going to be absolutely brilliant isn't he?

His series is really going to be about sorting his 13 regens thing out, it's a well known limit (even my mum mentioned it!) and has been referenced a few times...

What does a doctor behave like when he knows he's on his last life?

You may be interested to know that I found the 50th anniversary special to be fairly enjoyable, particularly coming from it having finished my classic marathon over the last couple of years. In particular, the use of stock footage during those final moments as all the previous incarnations are flying their Tardises around Gallifrey was a proper fangasm moment. A multi-doctor story that featured every single Doctor - how about that?

I echo the disappointment that Eccles couldn't make it for the regen scene. It did seem like they'd planned for him to be there with that scene and I genuinely thought he would until it cut away. Boo.

The 3D was fine; it looked pretty good in a few places (particularly with the paintings) but was otherwise a forgettable effect. I liked the intro bits they had at the cinema - they were really well done, and meant there was even more Tennant to enjoy.

I realise I've quite missed Tennant's Doctor. Like many, I suspect, I grew a bit bored of his character, but he's absolutely excellent in this. The interplay between the three of them is superb. I was surprised by how likable Hurt's non-Doctor was. I figure he was being made out to be some evil bastard that the Doctor was ashamed of, but he's a sort of nice jokey bloke like any of the others - he just had to make a hard choice, is all. Give him a break!

Disappointed that the "Time War" was basically just a "war". In the same way the Clone Wars were better left to the imagination before the Star Wars prequels played them out, they probably shouldn't have bothered to show the Time War either.

Billie Piper as not-Rose was weird.

Capaldi's eyes were an unexpected surprise. First time the next Doctor has appeared before his actual regeneration episode, albeit briefly.

Tom Baker was also unexpected and I didn't catch the explanation, but that's been explained here to my satisfaction, so thanks.

I think I'll have to watch it again. The iPlayer is getting a lot of use this month.

Incidentally, An Adventure in Space and Time was absolutely brilliant. :)

I hope that Matt Smith regenerates in the middle of a life and death struggle for his life, in the middle of combat. Explaining why Capaldi's doctor has such an angry personality/looks. Fed up with the last two Doctors regenerating on their own terms. How cool would it be for a villain to skewer matt smith in the heart with a sword or something, only for that sword to be removed a second later by a regeneration-crazed Capaldi?

I hope they bring back Strax

I hope Matt Smith is giving a big important speech about how he's the Doctor and they should be scared and run and he's destroyed empires while Murray Gold music plays at an obnoxious level, then halfway through a bored Cyberman just shoots him.

I hope that Smith's doctor is giving James Corden a hug after they've played a m8y game of footy, and James Corden sweatily has a big fat obese heart attack and falls onto the doctor and crushes him to death, and peter capaldi is ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS about this. (Corden's body can be unceremoniously cremated by the doctors magical regernation beams or something, and then forgotten for ever).

In all seriousness, as overused as they are nowadays, I've always hoped we'd see a Doctor regenerate after being shot by a Dalek. I know that happened with Tennant and his spare hand, but that doesn't really count in my mind. What I'm saying is - they've been at it for long enough, surely the Daleks should actually win for once?

My favourite bit was the incidental music gag, which would surely have gone down well with anyone who thinks Murray Gold's music is OTT.

I'm trying to remember what the incidental music from the Classic show they used was. Logopolis or Castrovalva I think, certainly sounded quite Paddy Kingsland to me.

I dunno about that particular bit but a good chunk of it elsewhere was from The Five Doctors. :)

The six and eight parters were always stuffed with padding though, and the four parters were only about as long as a modern two parter. I wouldn't mind a season of two parters mind as long as the stories have enough content to justify it.
