Doctor Who

Some great moments, but thought it was a mess, and for a large part - boring.

Certainly didn't live up to the BBC's hype.

I'm sure I'll be the only one thinking this, so what do I know?

Apart from the last 15 minutes, it was shite.

I haven't watched Doctor Who in years, the hype for this piqued my interest in it.

It felt like any old crappy episode, maybe there were geeky references in the program, but to someone who doesn't know that much detail it really felt like it had no reference to the history of Doctor Who.

Some shitty red version of Day of the Tentacle as the baddie? So what? The bird out of Gavin and Stacy looking fat and ugly as a Welsh accented Elizabeth I? Who cares? What did they have do to with 50 years of Doctor Who?

Last 15 minutes was pretty good, loved the glimpse of Malcolm Tucker. As it's been said, that should have been the announcement.

But the rest was balls.

Just back from the cinema, lots of people wearing a Fez and long stripey scarves.

Fabulous atmosphere, lots of cheering and massive smiles at the end.

So very glad I saw this on the big screen, it was well worth the price of admission for the atmosphere alone.

There were a couple of extra bits at the start too, one skit with Strax doing the cinema rules (phones off etc) and one with Tennant and Smith introducing 3d. Quite cheesy but fun.

Funny how different people's expectations were. One person didn't like it because it was self-referencing too much. Another criticising because it wasn't self-referencing enough. And I'm not sure a massive change to a big part of the show is uneventful. And if it was massively predictable, nobody seemed to have mentioned it before.

I loved the scene with the three of them trapped in the tower. Their escape solution was a great idea, and the disappointment on their faces when Clara spoilt it was well done.

It also, rather cleverly, set up the whole 'I've been working on this plan for centuries' thing...

This Fiveish Doctors thing is great fun.

Where's that on at? Someone said it was a red button thing but it was never mentioned and there was no link to it on the red button? Ah well. It'll be somewhere online before too long

Capaldi had more presence in that 3 milli seconds than any other actor in the entire episode. I can't wait to see him as doctor.

Tom Baker was just a wonderful touch. Brilliant.

And, slightly dodgy CGI aside, the line up at the end was an amazing thing to see.

And... I was dreading the appearance of Rose, but she was handled brilliantly.

Just loved it. Absolutely loved it.

And that's from someone who thought the last series was rubbish

I'd say this was a pretty messy affair throughout. Some great moments here and there and some good to great performances from Smith, Piper and especially John Hurt. So in other words: about the best anniversary we got since the Five Doctors then.

The best thing about the episode is that it finally closes the Time War stuff and with that made it's first step away from mopey PTSD Doctor. I quite like the idea of the Doctor searching for his home from now on as well.

As much as I loved this, I really haven't enjoyed the show for a while, so that's hopefully the case.

Now bloomin' Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen are in this!

I don't object to the grumpy old bastard thing, as it's probably true, but could you shove the 'only doing it to appear cool' thing - which I notice you do about the 'joyless' people who criticise Nintendo games - up your arse, Scott? Because it's kind of the death of criticism/discussion of art when people trot this guff out, and if there's no value in the former then there's not much point to this folder.

Ta.

Is this another instance of me being an 'utter utter spastic' as you so eloquently called me once.

If so, sorry... But I, and whole bunch of people I was with enjoyed it.

As you were. I'll stay out your road. Criticise away.
