Doctor Who

But at least it tells a coherent storyline over a number of episodes, instead of shoehorning in references at the end of the episode and passing that off as a storyline.

To be far, Babylon 5 had the benefit of a fixed location with a whole ensemble of regular characters. The whole point of Doctor Who is that each story takes you somewhere completely different, with a new story each time, which makes it much trickier to build an arc like B5's.

Just watched AiSaT. I think for the first time it struck me really how amazing it is that a show that captured the imagination of millions of children 50 years ago is still around today, that in the beginning there was no legacy of actors playing the lead role, only THE Doctor, William Hartnell. Imagine telling those people involved in the production back then that people in the future would say it wasn't Hartnell but Troughton, or Baker (the first one) ten years down the line, who truly nailed the role. That it would still be running 50 years down the line, and that those pepper pots with egg whisks and toilet plungers would be scaring children whose parents hadn't been born yet.

I suppose everyone knows about this, and it's a bit unnecessary posting links to every Dr Who special/docu to be shown this year, but there's a Culture Show special on BBC 2 tonight at 9:30, Matthew Sweet exploring the history of the show in terms of its cultural impact, featuring interview with actors, directors, and so on: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03jnw7p - as if you needed telling.

Yeah, I can't keep up at the moment, so thanks for the heads up Gorf.

South East News was fun today. Anthony Coburn lived just up the road from me when he wrote An Unearthly Child, so there has been a bit of a Who knees up here in Herne Bay. They're showing the first episode in the King's Hall, with such luminaries as, er...Kate O'Mara...present.

To celebrate the Day of the Doctor episode, our new Doctor Who: Say What You See app is just 69p this weekend only!

Also, if you're going to the Doctor Who Celebration event this weekend, we'll hanging out there so come and say hi! We're just near the autograph booths, next to the information stand. My companion Lana is wearing a quite spectacular red Dalek dress, so you can't miss us.

Caught a bit of this, was surprised when they actually had a couple of minutes with Gary Russell (former Big Finish head honcho and now works for bbc wales) discussing the Audio visuals (big finish's predecessor).

Anyway, happy anniversary Doctor Who!
