Doctor Who

3 seasons of Matt Smith doesn't seem enough, whereas 3 seasons of Tennant seemed like plenty.

It'd be nice if they could find someone relatively unknown who could really put his stamp on the role, but I fear the show will never go back to basics enough to let an actor do that any more. The character, and the show, is saddled with too much "lore" now.

Depends how big a reset they do with the timelines. I'd like to see them group the stories by a particular theme or thread running through rather than some widget. So there US no bug bad, but they all examine mistakes the Doctor makes, or something.

I'm just worried they'll regenerate the Doctor into a woman, just because.

Matt Smith and David Tennant were both relative unknowns. Tennant was only a shoo in because he'd worked with RTD on Casanova, but it's not like he was particularly famous beyond that. At any rate it will probably be someone fairly unknown because the BBC won't want to pay famous-person fees for a part that is so intensive.

Re: Paul Bettany

A massive pay cheque for a start. It's definitely going to be an unknown.

I agree with you, broadly, but I don't know that Bettany would be as expensive as you think. Master And Commander and A Beautiful Mind were a long time ago, and be hadn't had any roles even close to as high profile as that in years. A spell in one of the BBC's most lucrative world-wide exports wouldn't hurt his career.
