Doctor Who

Catching up on the last few episodes. Hide was excellent, only episode I've really enjoyed this season so far. Journey to the Centre of the Tardis was curiously boring considering the setting. I continue to not give a shit about Clara's mystery, and find her neither attractive nor interesting.

Watching The Crimson Death now. Comedy Sontaran and fainting pratfalls. Do not want.

Ok. As bad luck would have it I'll be on a cruise ship when Doctor Who is airing. (Also missing Eurovision). Happily as Harsin posted some nice companies in the US have thoroughly spanked the release date of the DVDs and shipped early.

Crisis averted. I'm hoping to download a copy very soon but I shall not spoil you chaps. Just be careful. Apparently a full synopsis of the episode is out in the wild. Watch yourselves out there people.

Why was the emporer of the universe hiding under a table

because he is a dwarf

I've been trying to figure out why I'm so disengaged with mystery of Clara. I don't think I'm alone, here and elsewhere used to be filled with pages of speculation on, but this season pretty much nada, despite them putting more emphasis on an arc than ever before. For me I think it's partly because everything post A Good Man Goes to War was so rubbish with regards to last season's death of the Doctor storyline, culminating in the nonsensical Wedding of River Song. But I also think Clara is basically Poochie, instead of having any chance to grow naturally into a character the audience enjoys, we're instead constantly told by other character's how awesome and clever and sexy she is. Every episode seems to contain dialogue from the Doctor about how we should be really, really interested in the mystery of the 'impossible girl' (see that prequel thingy above as well). I had to laugh when in that Tardis episode they actually came straight out and described her character traits as 'sassy' and 'feisty'. It just all feels really forced.

I think its to do with the fact shes shit

not quite Mel shit, but close to it

also, hasnt tamsin outhwaite let herself go

Having recently rewatched The Time Warrior and The Sontaran Experiment, Strax feels totally wrong to me. The Sontarans torture humans just to research their weaknesses, they don't crack jokes.

Strax, madame vastra and jenny are the single worst things to happen to who in a long long time. Totally undermine the races as baddies and lend a cbbc vibe. Even the sontaran in sarah jane was scary!

Maybe if you believe that every single member of a race is exactly the same. But I thought we had progressed beyond that.

The Sontarans are supposed to be clones though, spawned in vats.

Didn't like the Cyberman episode either. Matt Smith arguing with himself for 45 minutes. Rubbish re-design, and the Cybermen move ever further away from their original chilling concept. Sigh.

I'd be much more interested (ie at all interested) if they'd done anything with Clara's imposibleness, rather than just mention it at the end of each episode. Like, maybe different Claras could have been in the background on each of his trips (like he's going out of his way to find Claras) or that she's got some weird bleeding memories or recollections or deja vu all the time. But no, nothing. And the stories haven't been great, overall. I liked the ghost one, and the Victorian one and last night's OK though.

But that's how dr who has done 'story arcs' ever since the first series of the reboot. You just have some pointless thing like a crack or "bad wolf" or whatever which you menachingly show at the end of each episode, utterly devoid of meaning or context, because that's how they do it in american shows like battlestar galactica isn't it.

Matt Smith is great but he's suffering from some poor scripts. However, that said, I have enjoyed the ghost, sweet, and Cybermen episodes and the Tardis one was quite good.

JLC is really hot. However, she's quite annoying in the show.

I liked it when The Doctor said she had a funny nose, because she has. Really don't see the appeal.

I still think there is never enough threat to the main characers in the show. When the Doctor was all poisoned and fucked in The Crimson Death I was quite pleased, because I thought he might have been in dire straits for once. But no, two minutes later he's used the Sonic Screwdriver in a cupboard, and out he bounds. It's all so unsatisfying.

When's Sprite back?
