Not to nitpick at every comment to the contrary ( because I can't be arsed ) but kissing without consent gives him his glimmer of humanity?

blarg

I knew that was coming after I wrote it!

Point is that he's not perfect, he's humanity's biggest fanboy and he wears his emotions on his sleeve whilst not quite fully understanding what it is to be human. I think the "mwah" show's his relief and lack of sexual intention before realizing how it might come across.

This might sound worse than what I've already said but especially with the more recent doctors, I've always pictured them as almost having Aspergers, they don't quite understand the appropriate reaction to everything but they try.

And humanity (before) was the wrong word to choose, I just meant that it's what stops them from being a 2D, depth-less character.

Are people seriously complaining about someone kissing someone else on the spur of the moment on a TV show without getting explicit consent first? When does that ever happen?

I did it once before realizing how it completely ruins the mood, same for sex. I was naive. :coffee:

he destroyed his own people and planet just to stop an enemy...I doubt he is too concerned about getting some girls authority to kiss her

I really don't like Clara. After a while I got fed up with Rose and the same for River Song. Amy was good, Martha I mostly forget but Clara I just don't like... That forced sassiness just winds me up. My wife as well can't stand it.

I've only watched the first episode and thought it was awful, then saw the Internet say the second one was worse... I need to get in the right mood to try the rest out.

I'm in the same position as you. I watched the first two and thought they were both awful (the first one was slightly worse than the second, but neither had much to recommend them). Then I gave up through sheer apathy halfway through the third episode. Haven't seen any since. I've got them all stacked up on the Tivo but don't have any real incentive to watch them - the plots have gone to shit, I don't care in the least about who Clara is, and I'm thinking I'll probably just sit out the rest of Moffat's tenure and hope whoever replaces him has some fresh ideas. I was really looking forward to the 50th anniversary special but every rumour I hear makes it sound more and more disappointing.

It's weird, I've been a Who fan my entire life and I can't remember a point when I've been less invested in the show than right now. It's been a steady decline for me really since the first half of Smith's first season.

There are quite a few actually. Keep in mind though that Moffat has confirmed that he's writing series 8 as well. So that puts any development on the showrunner front of untill at least 2015.

Right now there seem to be a few options for showrunners after Moffat:

-Mark Gatiss, has written extensively for Doctor Who during the wilderness years (I.E.: Everthing between the cancellation in '89' and the new series in '05') including novels, audio plays and parodies. A bit like Moffat then who also wrote a lot of stuff during that time. Add in the fact that Gatiss has been with the new series since it's inception and you have a good candidate. Doesn't have a lot of experience as showrunner though, except for maybe Sherlock and the League of Gentlemen.

-Chris Chibnail, don't run away screaming just yet. Chibnail has had experience as a showrunner on at least the first two seasons of Torchwood (head writer plus co-producer next to Russel T. Davies) plus he's had experience producing a lot of other shows for the BBC such as period dramas and other things.

There's also the fact that he was the head writer for the UK version of Law and Order so he's had experience with 'bigger brands' as well which would make him seem pretty fit for Doctor Who. ...despite his scripts often being less than stellar.

-Toby Whithouse, wouldn't be to surprised to see him become the next showrunner. Responsible for all 5 seasons of Being Human which gives him some experience producing and writing for Sci-Fi shows.

He's good friends with Julie Gardner who was the executive producer on all of RTD's Doctor Who related stuff so she can probably vouch for him as well. And there's the fact that the latest executive producer on the show worked on a lot of shows Whithouse has produced and written for. Also, Being Human was the first show for the BBC in a long time which gave them decent ratings with the age 18-25 crowd. Consider the fact that the BBC sees that same audience as the 'lost' audience for Who and it would seem that Whithouse would be a lock.

Moffat also seems keen on at least keeping Whithouse on board. He's been raving a lot on the stuff Whithouse has written for the show.

There's a few other candidates as well. Neil Cross has producing credits with shows like Luther and there is always Neil Gaiman. But with none of the experience of the above mentioned. Personally I'd pick Whithouse any day of the week over the other two considering that Gatiss is busy with Sherlock and we'd still have the production problems we have now. Chibnail I'm a little bit worried about if he get's the job. A lot of people mention 'Cyber Woman' or 'The Power of Three' but for me it was his Silurian two-parter that I wasn't to fond of.

Chibnall seems like a distinct possibility. Ugh. Well 42 and Dinosaurs on a Spaceship weren't bad, I suppose. And apparently he wrote Broadchurch which I didn't watch but it was supposed to be good.

Whithouse wouldn't be so bad. His episodes are pretty variable but he's got a good ear for dialogue, and I liked what I saw of Being Human. It's hard to imagine him going crazy over the top with the bombast and complicated plotlines like Moffat does.

HarMGM - that's a great run down dude.

Whithouse is probably the one I hadn't really considered. I'd love someone to bring back the concrete-ness backdrop that some of RTD's work had (this photo is probably one of my favourite nu-Who things ever) and Whithouse might be good for that, although if he's used to working on his own storyworlds I wonder how he'd adapt to Who. Whoever put together Misfits might be good...

It'll be Gatiss though. Perfect combo of RTD cred from the non-TV years and lost adventures plus he's a chum of Moffat.

Thanks. I enjoy reading up on behind-the-scenes stuff to see what could come in the future so hence me being able to write all that down. :)

More to the point, who's going to be Twelve? Seeing as how the rumours are intensifying that Matt's not doing series 8 after all.

I say Ruth Wilson, let's shake this shit up a bit.

I see your Ruth Wilson and raise you Ruth Madoc. Let's go mental!

I'm still rooting for Clarke Peters (out of The Wire)

Nah, if we're choosing The Wire actors, it would have to be Wendell Pierce - "I'm just a humble muthafucker with a big ass sonic screwdriver"

A bit like Colin Baker you mean.

Actually it's interesting to note the similarities between Colin Baker's era and the show as it currently stands. Declining viewing figures coinciding with weak scripts, a more prickly Doctor following on from a very human one (I think Matt Smith's great but his character is deliberately written to be odd and he's nowhere near as warm and likeable as Tennant was in the role, much like Baker following Davison), constant buggering around with the show in the schedules and strange experiments with series-long story arcs. Worrying. Looks like we'll be getting the new Sylvester McCoy next then.

Not quite what mean. I think it would be good to have a doctor who really thinks he is fantastic, handsome etc but is a bit of a fool and bumbles his way through rather than have a solid plan all the time.

Johnson could have pulled that off perfectly.

I think its time for a black doctor.
