Doctor Who

The worst thing about the Singing episode was the way they essentially used the Sonic Screwdriver as a Harry Potter Wand. Not the first time they've done that, but it really grated here.

Ugh, one of the more 'Tennant-y' aspects of the episode

/waves sonic screwdriver at wooden door

I kinda wish there had been some kind of space mcguffin in the pyramid that he could have used to kill the big bad. Using his brain for once.

It was the perfect opportunity to do something like Horns of Nimon, or the 'traps in a temple' of Death to the Daleks like Sprite Machine just watched. A small, character building episode with danger and some clever thinking to solve and escape the maze/labyrinth. Instead we got two rooms, shit singing, terrible exposition by 'grand' speeches, and THIS:

RAWR *gurgle*

Back from holiday and just caught up with this. Oh dear.

I'd echo a lot of the opinions already voiced on here - it looks great, Smith is still great, Clara is gorgeous and has real potential. However, the story was just dull and felt like a rehash of old ideas.

I'm really losing interest in New Who and that makes me genuinely sad. Moffat is looking more and more like the wrong choice to helm the show. He just doesn't seem to have what it takes to make this work with overall control. I had hoped things would pick up after we finally (I hope!) saw the back of River Fucking Song but it hasn't.

I'm dreading her reappearing in the 50th special. Moffat seems to love her as a character. I cannot stand her.

Yours,

Worried of Devon.

Oh and PLEASE can we have, at least, McCoy and McGann back but ideally all of those still alive!

Edit - Lawrence Miles maybe? He's written some good Who apparently but comes across as rather bitter/blinkered on his blog.

Someone mentioned a couple of pages back about how Colin Baker deleted a couple of tweets that appeared to give the game away somewhat. I would be a wee bit disappointed if they only did Tennant and Smith for the 50th but I think it's unlikely we'll get more than cameos from the rest, which is a shame cos an Old Who show with McGann would be great.

Well, never thought I'd say that Mark Gatiss has written one of the best episodes this season. Seriously, that has got to be the best reintroduction of an old villian since 'Dalek'.

I'd say this stands quite firmly as the best thing Gatiss has written for Who and as one of the better Moffat-era eps.

That was great. Proper Who for a change. My little boy is running about with a box on him pretending to be an ice warrior and chasing his little sister (who he says is Clara)

That's ace. :D

As was the episode. It was pretty much the exact opposite to last week's, showing again that Who works better when the scale is pulled back a bit. The ice warrior was excellent.

Classic base under siege. Closest the show has been to classic Who in a while.

Yep, this could have been a story for quite a few of the classic Doctors.

Sad geek that I am, I spotted the Sports Walkman and recognised it as being from a couple of years later than 1983.

What I try and do is imagine how the episode would have looked back in the 80's or earlier. This one would have worked in any era. That to me is a measure of a classic story.
