Doctor Who

Recommended Posts

I have to admit I've been hate-watching New Who for a few years now. Plots resolved with deus-ex-machina nonsense? Check.  Unconvincing and unthreatening bad guys?  Check.  Universe in peril? Check.  Too much plot and not enough story? Check.

Whittaker's era couldn't have got off to a better start for me.  It seems to have fixed so many of the problems I've had with the series since it came back.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the mysterious Timeless Child reference this episode. I assume this is a hint at the story arc for this year?

I did, only not here.

So much for the "no arc, self-contained stories".

I don't think that was ever promised, unless I've missed something. Interviews with cast and crew had suggested that there would definitely be threads running through the series, but also that the episodes themselves would still work as stand alone stories. The intention was to ensure new viewers wouldn't be lost if they started watching a few episodes in, as I recall.

Along with the Timeless Child mention, there's also the Stenza link between this episode and the first which implies they could be something of a theme as well.
