Meteos - Famitsu Like.

My only frustration, and it's one that's true of Lumines too, is that it's not quite switch on and offable. In Lumines, it can take ages to play through the challenge mode, which has put me off playing it recently, because I'm worried I'll miss my tube/train stops. And in Meteos, the main part of the game requires you to clear successive stages before completing the final stage; but you can't save between stages. So to do the eight or so stages required to complete one playthrough takes about 20 minutes, but I'd rather be able to play for five minutes, then save and so on, because of the demands of commuting.

I was thinking this, then I discovered the Time Attack/Survival mode. You can play a 2 or 5 minute survival mode, or a 100 or 1000 line time attack. Perfect for quick games.

I haven't played much yet but it's already 'clicked', seeing a massive block slowly work it's way off the screen in a chain reaction of matches is really satisfying. I'm also seeing the game playing out in my head even when I stop playing, which is always the sign of a good puzzle game.

You could just close the DS and send it to sleep, though.

Absolutely, and I could use the sleep functionality on the PSP, but in both cases that messes with my obssessive compulsive disorder/paranoia about battery-life, and takes me out of the zone...

heh! I accidently left my DS on sleep for about 2 days, and it was still chugging along on Green light for a while after that.

Don't you fret!

PS - what's YOUR high score on the 2 minute time trial?

It's really not as bad as Lumines though. Lumines, I seriously find it hard to find time to play, because I know a game has to last *at least* an hour and a half. Now I'm trying to just play it for a while, switch it to sleep mode, and continue later on.

Meteos, other people have mentioned the 2 minute and 5 minute time trials. I've been playing the 5 minute one quite a lot. It gets really frantic over the last minute, a non-stop downpour of bricks.

I don't get "scrubbing" either, every time I try just ends in Game Over for me. I want to cheat too!

Anyway

21.93secs on 100 blocks :)

49,160 on 2 min

101,410 on 5 min

And I can't even finish 1000, like most of you. Bloody hard.

We need a high score chart for Meteos, methinks.

Good scores there - yeah, a hiscore thread would be cool.

21.35 secs for 100 block mode ;)

You've got me well beat with your other scores though...

This scrubbing thing is worrying me. Is it a game wrecking problem?

Think of it as the equivalent of button bashing in fighting games. I personally don't think it's a particularly effective technique when going for hiscores or quick times.

Oh, and I completed 1000 block mode - 2 mins 20.89 secs :P

Scrubbing is pretty rubbish. It might save you short-term, but if you have a screen full of blocks, you're basically going to die if you rely on it.

And as Jashin says, it's rubbish for high scores. There's no way you can effectively combo using it. Or maybe I'm just crap at it.
