Doctor Who

I'm not reading great things about it at the moment. The SciFi channel in american passed it up saying it was rather lacking. The Scifi channel is currently showing BSG over there which is easily the best scifi on TV and if the doctor isn't up to that standard considering how much they've spent on it i'll be rather disappointed.

Pfft, they probably need it subtitled anyway. :P

Dr Who in widescreen. :P

The fact that its not American weighs heavily against it. For some reason US TV channels rarely will show UK shows unless their really low profile cable stations or PBS. They'd sooner remake a show than show the British original (see Coupling, The Office - which won awards but is still slumming it on "digital cable only" BBC America).

Basically I wouldn't read too much into the fact that SciFi passed on it.

That sounds like a reason to be cheerful to me. It might mean it's actually got some subtletly and "Britishness" about it.

But my official position is still "Assume it'll be shit, don't get excited, then you might be surprised".

What he said.

I'd also read a lot more into the fact the BBC and Sci-fi are currently bartering over a show called Triangle (as in Bermuda). So this may be an issue.

As in we'll have let you have Triangle for less than £3 million if we get Who for cheaper.

Oh and the US sci-fi channel thats the one that cancelled Farscape isnt it? And makes Andromeda? :P They also seem to prefer shows they make as has sort of been mentioned? Expect a very similar type of show to hit US screens next year Sci-fi made.

Oh and drthvder I'm hearing NOTHING and I mean NOTHING but praise from certain people who have seen it. Luck withstanding I may have a tale to tell next week :P .

If you want to know drthvder ask Dork Knight. Everyone else wait till next week.

I heard a few bits and pieces yesterday from people who've seen the entire first series and I have to say it got me quite excited.

I'd be suprised if they had seen it all completed that is.

Apparently the Second episode is so complex(RTD himself said this btw) that the Mill wont finish all the effects until the week before Rose broadcasts.

They are also still filming as we speak. Honest.

I think whats finished utterly in relation to all post prod and visual fx and score is

Ep 1

Ep 3

Ep 4

Ep 5

Ep 6

Ep 8

They are definatly still filming Ep 12 and 13 with all the others in various stages of Post. Christ I'm such a geek. They were also filming ep 11 as of 2 weeks ago.

The remainder of the episodes still have FX shots and a some post prod to complete.

Linkster you working on the game then or does NDA not allow you to even answer?

i'm guessing the lator. the bbc never get their SFX right. not since the tripods anyway!

WRONG check out their website. Some of the best FX in UK movie and TV have come from the mil these past few years. Ridley scott uses them a lot.

The mini was redesigned and for the better i think you'll notice, or did those updated mini looking cars driving around escape your attention. I'm not saying there not iconic, but come on honestly they will just not stand up today, and even the people currently involved with the good doctor will admit as they themselves knew they should have been redesigned and would have been if not stopped by Terry Nations family. Kids these days will laugh and shout throw your jacket on the floor or run up the stairs and don't give me the rubbish about hovering that just doesn't cut it. At the end of the Dr Who caught your attention as a child more than likely, and if the daleks these days can't stand up to a childs wonder, amazement or ridicule then something needs to be done.

Now as jonny storm would say "flame on"

Flame on

Wrong wrong and wrong again.

Rememberance of the Daleks episode 1. 1988 I believe. The Doctor runs upstairs and turns in horror as Dalek hovers up after him CLIFFHANGER OR WHAT.

The New Series

Expect the dalek to really show how evil and downright fucking nasty it is. Its rumoured to be the most violent episode.

Oh and dont count your chickens on not seeing the dalek's really take flight in this series.

Oh and dont neglect to notice that the normal dalek appearing in ep 6

Click For Spoiler
is re-awakened accidently and rumoured to be an old style dalek to trick us. Its RUM OURED that the season ender, features the new Bryan Hitch designed daleks and hundreds of them

Check out some Bryan Hitch artwork too. HE IS THE MAN.

Anything else Mr Vder? Oh and I should point out here bar Rememberance Daleks have always been my least favoured thing in Dr Who.

Your pessimism wont effect me. George Lucas is a fat chinned twat and his new movies and the next one will suck. Thats flaming. <_<

After the first episode I'll be on holiday.

BOLLOCKS.

Now that was bad planning. My missus knows March 26th-June 13th we go nowhere sat night <_<

Anyway daleks. drth my sons favourite things about Doctor Who is daleks. When I was not bothering with Doctor Who much, I never had anything on display. My videos were in the attic and so were my books. It took a 30 second glimpse of a dalek on TV for my son to fall utterly in love with them. He'd never seen one before. I was stunned. You are seriously underestimating their power over generations of kids and adults. I expect loads of kids to go dalek mad again.

Your wrong about the Nation estate too. The reason why they stopped the BBC was shit all to do with re-design and everything to do with more money.

They really are iconic and seem to bring out 2 reactions in kids from my experience. They either love them and want to see more more more or they are shit scared of them? I've seen it happen with my own eyes. Honest.

Oh and didnt you say exactly the same about Episode 2? I'm not even going to the cinema to see Ep III its fallen that far for me.

Proper British sci-fi returns to TV this month. With characters and drama and humour and horror. With well written scripts and excellent actors.(I've heard Billie is blowing people away with her performance)
