Xbox Burned My House Down!

I got a second replacement cable this morning to replace the 2-pin replacement, with an apology letter for sending the wrong one. I hadn't contacted them about it, it was apparently in their records that they sent the wrong one first.

I also got a letter at the same time as my second replacement telling me that I will get a replacement in 2-4 weeks. That letter was dated 17 Feb. That took its time.

The story of the Swedish boy's console is frightening. It shows that sending out a placebo like these cables is enough to make people think that any problems they might have had with their Xbox before the cable switch is now fixed when it quite clearly isn't and that there's still a very real threat of injury from these machines.

The amount of bad press they'll get from this will hopefully be enough to make them do what they should have done in the very beginning and recall the machines. It's going to cost a lot of money, but not as much as it will cost, not just financially, but also in terms of reputation and criminal liability, if people start getting seriously injured or killed.

...Anahi reached over the gaming console to "shake" the cord a bit...

...The 'banf' was heard in the whole apartment and the power went out...

...When the new cord was plugged into the Xbox it exploded into the face of a friend of Sammy's mother...

Seeing as this topic seems to have come back from 2005..

I got a new cable back when they were sending them out, but of some strange reason kept the old one too. Last time I moved house I put in the old one and not the replacement... I didn't bother using the xbox for ages; but then my 360 broke so I started using it for DVD's again and it caught fire while I was halfway through watching a film :)

I returned my cable back in the day, and they sent me a cable back that looked - from what I can tell - identical to the one I sent them. Possibly even the same one. Certainly not the big huge one with the red/green switches on it and stuff like I think most people got.

Safe to use?

I got a replacement cable back when the fault was discovered, but, cleverly, never bothered to swap it with the original cable. It made no difference whatsoever.

..until the Xbox went up in smoke with a huge electrical buzzing sound a couple of years back (several years after I got the replacement cable). I ended up just binning it - it smelt like Satan's ass following the short.

And for anyone looking for one, buyer beware!

I picked one up super cheap at CEX about a year back, for purposes of soft modding. This thread has reminded me it was sold to me with the old cable!

Oddly though, I remember being refused to trade my original one in years ago because I didn't have the new replacement one at Gamestation.
