Xbox Burned My House Down!

My power lead arrived today. But it's got a two-pin plug on it.

Have the useless bastards sent me the wrong one? (It was posted from Southall, not the States). Or is this what everyone's got?

What do I do - cut the plug off and use a normal one, or use a shaving adaptor or something? I'm a bit surprised to say the least.

Strange, it's not an NTSC Xbox is it?

I believe you can still use them leads in a UK plug socket. Its probably not very safe but the prongs still stick in the same. Some plugs have protectors over the socket holes though which the 'earth' pin (which is sometimes plastic) opens up when put inside.

Er...

I thought I was supposed to be reducing the fire hazard here...

I got mine today. It's one of the ones that looks exactly like the old one, rather than the one with the box, so I doubt my house will be burning down any time soon. At least because of anything Xbox related, anyway.

I also got a letter yesterday, and an email the day before. All a few days after I had ordered it anyway.

Isn't it a bit crappy when, instead of your xbox becoming red hot when you leave it on, the crappy little power lead box gets even hotter. And the fact that said box rests inbetween about 30 other electrical cables aint so good.

Still, all Microsoft have to do know is replace the dvd drive so mine actually reads discs..... yippee

I got two leads.

The massive bulky one for my launch day xbox and the one that looks almost exactly the same as the normal lead for my feb 2003 green xbox.

I think it's a bit cheeky that they ask you to throw the old lead away when it's the bloody xbox that's the problem.

I got a normal one for my June 2003 Xbox. Obviously my lead isn't the problem, so I think I'll throw my Xbox away just to be sure.

I got a 2 pin one yesterday. Luckily I have a 2 pin - 3 pin converter thingy handy.

It's a pretty crap lead, it says in the book if it flashes green after pressing 'test' it's fine, but if it flashes red it's bad. Mine flashes green the red then green etc. Most annoying.

And yes that wee box gets pretty fucking hot.

Thing is, I ordered one from the website, and it said it'd take 2-3 weeks to get here. It took about 5 days.

I also got a letter about the power chord thing sent to me by microsoft, which came after I ordered onlnie, I dunno if they are automatically sending me another new one as well as.

The one that came yesterday is the same one that is pictured above, it really is a cheap piece of shit.

Ditto.

Can't believe the pigs ear Microsoft have made of this.

Time to re-email them I think.

Well in the end I got 3 for some reason.

2 with the boxes and the green button. But both UK plugs. Then 2 days later I got another lead but just the 8 lead without a box? Microsoft lead happy IMO.

Still I can keep the lead without a box as my PSP charger

My xbox was bought in the UK but I use it here in Norway. I was hoping that they would send me a norwegian plug so I didn't have to use a converter - but no.

Also - according to the customs label on the box - it was shipped to me from France.

:P

I got my replacement cable (with the box attatched as as shown in picture) but have not even thought of replacing the cable, had no trouble before either. One day I will get around to doing it, I just have so many wires.

I got the replacement cable today, its a US one though. Brilliant if I want to play my Xbox in the bathroom. Sure that would eliminate fire hazards ^_^

Also looks like my xbox might be a faulty one. The pins in the back of the console look burnt and discolored.

Poor design the xbox, not even like its compact technology lol

Seems they've sent out the wrong cable to a lot of people. They weren't especially helpful when I tried to contact them either.

Finally got the info though. Phone 0800 0289276 and listen to the interminably long recorded message. Then wait some more while it goes through the options again. Eventually - if you don't press anything - you'll get through to an operator, where you can rant incoherently and give them your Xbox serial number. They'll post you the correct cable forthwith.

???

I have the same replacement cable and it's left on all day - the box is barely lukewarm. Even before, my Xbox was always stone cold and it has been plugged in at the mains since day one...

I got mine today. I hadn't been keeping up with this thread, so I was quite surprised to find a big box in the middle of the lead and then dismayed when I noticed the 2 pin plug. Mine appears to have been shipped from The Netherlands.

And about this heat thing, is it only Xboxs which were getting hot which have the possible fault? Mine was made within the time period, but it never got hot like some people mention.

I reckon it's a clever way of not having to recall all earlier Xboxes just to see if the solder joint has broken.

Cost of recalling + postage + checking + return postage > cost of new power lead.
