Is anyone driving using the manual gearbox?

I have all aids off and using the low in car view (ZZOOOOM!), but the thought of having to co-ordinate gear changes as well as all the other stuff to think about is filling me with fear.  Should I go for it?

Is the automatic gearbox classed as an assist?

If it is and you get extra points for not using it I might make an effort to go manual from the off.

I've never played a racing game properly with manual, but I hear it allows you to go much, much faster.

In terms of acceleration, yes, but not top speed. Though it depends on good the auto-shift is: in some driving games it's spot-on, but in others manual is better.

I think you get +15% difficulty bonus for using Manual.

I love using manual gears, you tend to leave the automatic crowd for dead on the starts. :)

Yeah, you do (all of your points :) ).

It does this really cool down-shift noise too.  Worth using manual gears just for that.  Or maybe it's just me blipping the gas when I down shift

Have you noticed how you can gradually knacker your engine by over-reving. Yet another nice touch.

What buttons are used for gearing in Forza then? I'm trying to practise driving in manual on PGR2 and I'm finding it very difficult to go anywhere near as fast into corners and expecting to be able to stay on the track :)

My faves, how all driving games should be...

X - Down

B - Up

A - Handbrake

The controls are highlighted in the options menu :) They're configurable too. Trust me when I say you won't just 'switch' over and race the same. It takes practice. I can't think of a time where I have used automatic gears, to be honest. I've always been a 'manual' guy. Except in Moto GP. That's a whole different kind of ball game (I use manual now, btw...)

So, I upgraded my pants D1 car to an A1. I thought "surely this piece of shit can't go that fast!". Then I revved the engine, I got this beautiful whistling noise, and it went VROOM!

For a sim, I'm loving this.

I don't really want to play much, though, as I'll not want to go through getting all my cars again when it's finally out for Liveness :/

I don't have a chipped 'box so I've got to practise with PGR2. Just wanted to make sure that I'm practising with the right setup.

Having loads of fun with the maunual gears though, the game's making loads of noises I've never heard it do before, especially when dropping a couple of gears just before powering out of a corner, great fun

My lap times have suffered greatly as instead of concentrating entirely on the road and the upcoming corner I have to think about what gear I should be entering and exiting the corner with. My lap times are slowly getting better so i'll hope they keep getting better after beating all my automatic gearbox records...

No analogue for accelerating and breaking?  :)

Hopefully you can put gear changes on the right analogue stick, works really well in Outrun 2, up for up, and down for down (obv.)

I was thinking a click of the left stick for down and the right for up... could be a bit cumbersome though. Actually moving the stick seems too much hassle, what if you wanted to instantly move down 3 gears, much easier with a button IMO

Ah, but the buttons are analogue. Very, very bad analogue.

Won't your profile work on the Retail version then? Am I missing something?

Probably will... but theres the possibility it could be picked up on through Live as the game save was created with a leaked version of the game... or something.
