I've just bundled my way around the Nurburgring. It's very tough (even with all but 1 assist on)

It looks great, replays especially look superb. I haven't got a PS2, so can't compare to GT4.

I got into GT1 and 2 back in the day but couldn't be arsed with 3. Not sure if this will grip me yet.

EDIT: Soundtracks are implemented superbly, no stopping at loading screens, changing every 5 secs etc. All smooth and you can save it and have it all playing in the menus an' ting.

Crashes surprised me aswell, nice and meaty. I expected the old bump and stop of GT but I hit the back of this VW and sent us both spinning out onto the gravel :P

Worth the erm...*cough* bandwidth*cough* then?

Worth the erm...*cough* bandwidth*cough* then?

My fella *cough* downloaded it today, and I quote: "I have to say, it does look very nice. I was highly dubious after seeing the previous demo, but racing with 8 cars there isn't any slowdown and the tracks do look beautiful. I'm rubbish at it though."

Does that answer your question?

Just played some of it, here's my impressions,

Scenery looks nice, good trees.

Roads look weird, not shiny enough.

Cars look odd too, the shadows seem too dark

Some good soundtrack options, like those.

Nurburgring feels less "intense" than the GT4 version, but I liked the look of it more and it feels fun to drive.

Point-to-point races seem excellent, they mix things up well. The first around the harbour reminded me of Burnout 2, very good.

The single-player seems less sterile than GT4, some cool little touches like having to improve relationships with manufacturers and stuff, it definetly adds something to the game.

I don't really like these type of games but it's defeintely got something, it could be interesting over live.

I'll give it 24.683 litres of Jif out of 32,366

Ok, I really like this now. I have noit played Gran Turismo since GT2 I dont think. So I will avoid any comparisons.

Great presentation. For a game so complax with a lot going on under the bonnet (ahem) it makes finding your way through the menus a breeze. It all looks nice too.

Customisable soundtracks, everything should have this. Although debatebale wether you should be listening to Prodigy while racing round Silverstone, but I like it B)

Its very unforgiving. But you quickly learn where you are going wrong. Once you start taking corners sensibly you get much more staisfaction when you out the foot down to accelerate out of it after a clean take.

There are little loading hints too that will help those struggling.

you can also pimp up your car. Not just paint jobs, but also by adding body kit and designs to the panels. Im sure there are virtually infinite panel decoratiuons you can come up with using the templates provided for those that are that way inclined.

Graphics are amazing. It doesnt look hyper realistic though. Not sure why. But it does look amazing. *neck on line* probably the best looking racer out there *neck on line*

Not far into it, so wont comment too much on the driver AI, but it the minute I am getting some really good races with interesting battles occuring for the top spots.

Definitely worth a look.

the over use of Bloom lighting makes it alot less attractive than PGR2..alot less.

its very washed out.

so its definitely not the best looking racer out there.

so far it seems to be GT1 on the xbox. i have hit the professional series and the racing is alot more fun, the opposition seem to be driving tuned cars.

its a game that you will have to put several hours into, to really know the true nature of the game. im not there yet, but my initial impressions are that its not inventing the wheel but the pad control is much better than GT4.

Had a great 4 player sytem link session on it last night, and the ability to buy and trade cars between players from different regions is genius. I think this is going to be huge on Live.

Yeah, I just seen an onscreen hint along the lines of "dont sell your cars back to dealerships, you will get a fraction of the cost. You will receive much better value trading over LIVE" sounds cool B)

Yeah you can make some really nice profits. It all depends on which region the buyer is in, the origin of the car and its rarity.

Plus the customisation side of things is nuts! Have you dabbled with the decals yet?

You can apply 100 decal layers per area! :)

Really need to get my creative hat on... but im struggling to create a "U" at the moment! ;)

Oh and its one of the few realistic racers that lets you have teams in multiplayer.

Team Racing?! Like 2v2v2v2 !?

That would be sweeet

Yep. It works like a mini tournament. With individual and teambased points!

It really gives scope for some interesting tactics...like:

On one of the races last night. I was 32 seconds in the lead and on the last straight. (As soon as you cross the line the others have 30 seconds to finish otherwise they get zero points). My teammate was in second place, but only 3 seconds ahead of 3rd. So I eased off the gas, and crossed the line after a 5 or 6 second delay. My partner then crossed the line with 1 second to spare and the 3rd place guy got knocked out!

It was perfection! B)

Sounds great, now all it needs is a unlockable F1 car  ;)

Were you playing on XBC? We tried that and there's no voice comms ;)

Nah. It was via a direct LAN linkup, and we didnt get voice comms either.

Voice comms is a certainty over Live though...isnt it? :)

A special mention also has to go to the custom soundtracks.

They are handled perfectly. The songs never stop, you get to hear them in their entirity regardless of where you are in the game. They continue through all the menus, shops etc and actually into the race itself.

This coupled with the fact that you can configure the Dpad to skip tracks and raise/lower the volume. They have pretty much got it sorted.

I think you'll find most System Link games don't use voice comms.

In my experience most have had them but may have just been lucky with the games.

U-1 what control setup is that? Does it keep everything else default? edit: had a quick look and it's obviously option, great :)

Under controler options there is a Dpad option that you can just switch between Steering and Music. So yep..everything else is kept as default (unless you dont use analog for steering of course)

oh yeah and Hitch..loads of system link games use Comms. Especially the more recent ones. Thats why it was a bit of a surprise to see it missing from this.

Yeah, playing with that now. Amazing what you can do, and its really easy to do as well!

If that element carrys over into your online racing then I will be creaming myself!

Obviously my car now carries a nice red 7 branding B)

EDIT: Actually, its a shame they dont have any letters as templates. I think you will be able to get a decent "U" by starting with the curved square and overlapping it with a circle, remember you can distort the shapes as well so should work quite well.
