Its still not Gran Turismo, but Forza isn't completely charmless...

After really getting into the demo, i've noticed some nice details, like the brake disc heating up, which may sound unremarkable, but it appears to be dynamic, in that they heat up more where the brake bias is actually at, rather than just randomly.

I also have to say that the crash physics and collision detection is brilliant. The way the cars bounce of each other and the environment is really quite good, the best i've seen anyway. I'm still not sure on the handling though, and that is quite important, or so i've heard.

not completely charmless?

Its dull and dead looking. Even for a realistic racing sim.

Dead looking? I thought the track looked quite nice....

Try rubbing the car against a wall, leavs the paint all over it.

So if you have a nice shiny red Ferrari + wall = nice shiny red wall.

+ do a donut somewhere on the track and it stays there for the whole race, click restart and the skid marks are still there which is very impressive.

Yes i do agree with the cloudy graphics, but judging from the latest screens and movies it seems to be fixed.

I got the demo.

Its terrible - possibly the worst realistic car game i have ever played.

Terrible gfx - far worse than GT3 let alone GT4.

Worse physics than pitstop 2 on the C64.

ABS braking allows you to turn when heavy braking - not in forza tho !

The Evo i tried was unable to take corners at speeds far lower than my wifes C3 could.

The Evo also understeered worse than a fiat uno.

The Laguna track is way too thin.

The cars float around a mile above said track.

Its shit

its total shit

Its total and utter shit.

Ahh but the brakes glow - hang on they have done for best part of 10 years - hardly groundbraking is it :D

Did i mentiopn its shit ?

Hello,

Just for info, my friend is an M$ developer who worked on the AI (Drivatars) for this game.

I spoke to him the other day and said that the demo was getting negged on forums.

He said that the devs were aware of this and that they were forced to release an early build for the demo.

He said that the version he has now been given is much nearer to Gold and that it is a *lot* better.

Just so you know.....

Steady.

You KNOW how popular opinion on this board works, especially regarding how games are prejudged well before release.

Difference here is that we are judging on a demo.

Unless the AI, Gfx, Physics + brand of coffee used have been scrapped and started over i hold out no hope for it ;)

i think you lot are all far to harsh, its clearly up there with the best sim drivin games on consoles.

Every time there is a Forza thread i find my self stuggling to tell people how good it is, and its simply because it takes a long time to get good at it.

The first time i played it which was about 20 mins i thought well that was RUBBISH, Crap game.

Played it again for 30 mins and still came away dissapointed, it was only about a week down the road i was bored one sunday night after a roast i thought, i got a few hours spare ill give it another shot, took me a full 1 hour to get into the swing of the handling and the track but ones i had learned the handling, cornering at speed using half the trigger for accelerating and half for braking etc......... not acelorating through the corner but out of it. Just Driving like it was real car I came away Gobsmacked.

Not only is the handling up there with the best games out there, but its one of the only games recently where the saying ''practise makes perfect'' makes sence.

I have said this so many time in many Forza thread out there and hopefully someone will lisen and take heed.

Turn off all the Aids, thats traction control ABS etc.....

Choose the fastest car in the game, the Ferrari le mans car and just give it about 40 mins of your time.

dont give up keep at it. When you get round all 3 laps without crashing you will understand what makes this game great. NOW GO PLAY IT PROPERLY !!!!

Cause you have not given it the time, all that im saying is dont jump to conclusions like i did.

And yes a Demo can easily be better than a full game, This is the only game that handles like a real car and as such it may take longer than normal to get used to it.

Only game that comes close to this handling is Ferrari 355 challenge on the DC and hell that game took flippin ages to come first and get a decent lap.

This game is the same

I also thought the Forza demo was pretty good.

Ok, the graphics may have been a bit shoddy, but its a demo. The physics were fine and nowhere near as bad some people are making out, and to compare them to a series of games whos physics have advanced as much as an athsmatic ant carrying too much shopping since it's 98 release, is ridiculous (Not that they had to mind)

If anything, Forza is addressing GT's real issues of improvement. Actual, visual damage, real desirable cars (Ferrari et al) and more extension to modifications. The worse one of all? GT's AI? It's terrible with all the AI cars whizzing round the track making no mistakes and not nearly worth comparing.

this demo isn't as polished at GT, but Forza is promising to deliver what GT needed for years.

This is all in comparison to GT3 of course, GT4 I guess we'll have to wait and see... ;)

Anyone interested in having a little fun with the Forza demo in this months OXBM? I was thinking of

best time in the lovely Ferrari 360. My best time so far is 1:38.420 which is rubbish but at least

it'll get the ball rolling. I reckon a sub 1:35 should be fairly easy.

Settings can be any way you like. Personally I like only ABS on, as it allows you to turn and brake simultaneously (despite what someone else has said).
