The problem I'm finding with the new Metallica album after a couple of listens is that it feels like all surface - I enjoy it whilst it's on, but I have no real recollection of anything about it after it's finished and there's no emotional connect at all. Hetfield's lyrics are as cringeworthy as ever too, although that's to be expected really. It certainly 'rocks' and I'm sure that the songs will work well live at the O2 but am I going to be listening to it next year? Next month? I'm not certain at all.

Yeah I know what you mean, The Day That Never Comes is the only one that sticks in my head, however after a quick listen in the car I found myself humming Fade To Black for some odd reason...

I can't remember a thing about the first 3 songs on the album, even after 5 ~ 6 listens. I'm hoping it's going to grow.

It took me a good 8 listens to get it. I love it now.

I know his lyrics are a bit cheesy, but I really like them, they are pretty honest, and I think he still has one of the best voices in metal.

A lot of the songs seem to be about his self esteem, drug and addictive personality. I think they are really good. The production is not as annoying once you get the music - I'm not sure what it is, but I think there's something hiding the melody in the guitars?

The harmonised guitar parts in end of the line really remind me of MoP

It's pretty fucking groovy when you get it too.

I keep worrying that I've already had the 'ultimate' listen (like the time I took the day off work to listen to Lateralus and listened to it all day) but I like it more and more.

Thumbs up metallica!

It totally pisses on that Slipknot song sorry VELOs.

:)

I think that pub sounds like a really good idea.

This Enslaved is brilliant. Another step on from Isa and Ruun, the progressive elements here are stronger than ever before. Had on repeat play all day, stunning stuff.

EDIT: 'Ground' seems to merge between good old Enslaved and 'Comfortably Numb'. Magnificent.

During his short time in Metallica, Dave Mustaine toured with the band, co-wrote four songs on Kill Em All, and co-wrote two songs on Ride the Lightning (as well as, according to Mustaine, "Leper Messiah" on Master of Puppets).[2] He also recorded several songs with the band including the No Life 'Till Leather demo tape. A few of the songs he wrote with Hetfield and Ulrich went on to be re-recorded by Megadeth. The most well-known of these is "The Four Horsemen" from Kill 'em All, which Mustaine wrote and later released on his debut album with the original lyrics as "Mechanix."

Very interesting, I've heard about leper messiah before, but I never really thought about it.

It's certainly got a different groove to most of the stuff on MoP.

Meshuggah were fairly decent yesterday. They either fucked up the start time though, or were running late, so they got about 6 songs out of them, before they fucked off.

No encore, and told to clear off for the Academys "Bulletproof" rock/disco/whatever night

Absolute bollocks. Its fucking rediculous. Everytime i've been to somewhere like the Cockpit in Leeds, if it overruns, it overruns. But there, it ends whenever they're told to.

So decent band, cut shot, and the audience robbed. Plus the acoustics yet again, were shite.
