So Far So Good So What was Megadeths last good album.

Before I get flamed for that I must add I went to see them in Newcastle earlier in the year, dave mustaine was a fucking god.

Probably one of the best performances of guitar shredding I have ever seen.

No way, Rust In Peace makes my top 5 metal albums of all time, as I'm sure it would a few other folk, Countdown is a great album too. United Abominations was good, but I couldn't get past Dave's right wing vitriol that seethes through the lyrics.

Death Magnetic the best thing Metallica have did in 17 years and for me possibly 20. We can complain about the drums, but it's Lars and it's not very likely that he's going anywhere. I think it's an incredibly progressive album, there's loads of riffs but they fit together well, another good sign for me is that songs I didn't like intially have grown.

They sound like a fire's been lit under them, and I'm thinking it's one of the best Thrash albums I've heard in a long time. Granted the last Exodus, Machine Head and Testament albums were brilliant and technically better but Metallica are better songwriters, there's songs on DM that just make me smile, clench my fist and go 'Yes!'.

It's been on repeat constantly for me and that never happened with the Loads or St Anger, with DM it finishes and I want to listen to it again. There's also at least 3 or 4 songs that are bonfide Metallica classics up there with Sandman, Creeping Death et al. I love it, and can't wait to hear it live.

With the weight of expectation hanging heavy over DM it's easy to start drawing comparisons that maybe aren't there.

I was starting to think of it as ...And Justice v2.

- The longer more complex songs.

- TDTNC = One

- Suicide & Redemption = To Live Is To Die

- My Apocalypse = Dyers Eve

But, that's just going to far! It's great album maybe we should stop being a bunch of old gits and stop comparing it.

So Far So Good So What was Megadeths last good album.

FUCKING WUT?

SF..SG..SW is pretty shitty. With a fucking dreadful drummer playing.

The last two efforts from Megadeth have been ok. They only have two good albums imo.

But fuck...what a pair!

Peace Sells and Rust in Piece.

RIP is almost without a doubt the finest Thrash metal record ever recorded. only thing that stands up to the dense, expertly crafted riffs is prob Reign in Blood.

..but RIB is a different thing all together, more punk ferocity.

The Blackening > Death Magnetic. ^_^ C'mon, you know it's true. ^_^

As I said earlier in the thread, it's good to see Metallica find their balls again, I do wonder how they'd sound with someone like Chris Addler or George Kolias behind the kit.

Speaking of Kolias, there's some insane instructional DVD material on www.sickdrummer.com. If only I could play with such finesse, power and technique. :(

If the Blacknening lost about 2 minutes off each song it'd be about perfect IMO.

I don't think there's any point in comparing MoP, RIP and RiB.

All are absoloutely astounding examples of metal at its best and demonstrates each band at the top of their game.

Hear Hear.

I loved the Blacking, but there's a few songs I flick past, it like 'The Formation of Damnation' for me are both difficult to listen too in one sitting for some reason.

If The Blackening lost some of the silly Clichés like the emo ernest chorus' and the dreadful lyrics it would be a good prog metal effort.

'Burn My Eyes' still knocks MH's other efforts into a cocked hat tbh, but purely for lengthy riffs (that sometimes over-egg the pudding) TB has DM beat - for me.

Work rules, sat here listening to Nile on my headphones. Go me.

Peace Sells has the edge for me, its a bit more sinister and My Last Words is fucking awesome. Even if i had to read the lyrics to understand wtf he was singing

It was precisely this that put me off the album, half the tracks start of kicking arse then it'd get to the chorus and I'd cringe couldn't bare to listen to it.

They'll never top Burn My Eyes. TRUFAX.

MH have never written anything that comes close to Burn My Eyes. Close.

Aye man i agree. The blackening is far better written and structure far better. The songs have got flow.

Metallica properly failed in that regard imo. Patching together a bunch of mismatched riffs doesn't make you prog.

The best metal I've heard in AGES is the latest album from the Fucking Champs.

Oh I'm listening to it as 320Kb CBR MP3s, and the drums are easily the worst thing about the album, yeah Lars lets have the drums higher in the mix than the guitars, coz that is what metal is all about. Drums.

You're listening to transcodes of 128kbps wma files (and poorly encoded ones at that). No better rip than that yet exists and no-one can really say what the actual album sounds like yet.
