It's Down, Down-towards, Down-Up and Kick.

Just so that you know, in the Alpha series, they changed it to Towards, Down, Down-towards and kick (basically a Dragon Punch movement but with the kick button).

Uh, what he means is Down, Down-Forward, Up-Forward + Kick.

TIME PARADOX

Just to clarify, it's down, down-towards, towards, up-towards in SF2. If you pick X-ism in Alpha 3 then you have to use this input, otherwise it'll be the dragon kick motion for the rest of the series.

I think i've just stumbled across the most beautiful 2D beat 'em up in loooong time. It's called 'Monster.' and words fail to express how fluid and the down right gorgeousness it oozes everywhere. It's for Windows right, get that shit on LIVE Arcade stat? Looks very playable as well, from a person accustomed the 3rd Strike pace of fighters. Luvverly, your thoughts?

That's shitballs-awesome. Why the hell is it only for PC?

Some of my recent matches from a Uni session:

Singho (IB, DU) vs Me (UR, YU)

Singho (Q) vs Me (UR)

Singho (AL, KE) vs Me (UR)

Singho (OR) vs Me (UR)

Rakurai (TW, MA) vs Me (UR)

Rakurai (MA) vs Me (UR)

There are more to come (which are better - actually Singho got a lot of good matches off me and there's more of Vince's rapacious Makoto) but I need to wait until I'm home to edit them.

I'm a bit pissed off with my execution there but I'm out of practise and was called at too short notice to have a quick warm up on all that Aegis bollocks. I didn't really get my eye in even by the end of the night, but hey there are still some decent bits and bobs there and I've had matches where my execution has been flawless but my spacing and mindgames have let me down so it's nice to have a few up there which clearly have that whole mindgame and pressure play bullshit going on.

Hey jim, how about uploading the matches where I dont look shit! xD Your Urien has got well dangerous though, your execution is almost flawless!

Was a great session, got to crack open my new SCII stick and start practicing on it. Much better to use then my T5 Hori, less bulky and the stick doesnt have as much travel on it. Watching the vids back really makes me realise that atleast I have got the basics down in controlling my character, just the fact I cannot do super arts at will hurts my game too much!

Will be practicing again inorder to sort the execution on the supers and super cancels out, so that next time I can capitalise on all the parries I do with somthing nice and meaty to Urien's face. :D

It was actually very very far from flawless but I tend to keep it to myself because I think whining about not being able to get stuff off makes a player look like a sore loser.

I really, really do need to upload the rest of the matches as overall it was actually damn close. 21-19 to me, IIRC - but I did only use two characters whereas you were skipping about choosing pretty much every character at least once at some point so it was a lot harder for you. You had some awesome matches there and I'll get them up when I'm next home and actually have a decent set of decompression codecs (I don't know exactly what Vince used, but it's some bullshit that virtualdub on my laptop doesn't like).

just the fact I cannot do super arts at will hurts my game too much!

You keep going on about that like you're the only one who misses stuff. I mean, come on man! :D If if if if if.

You can set up the Aegis! Im too scared to even spam one out as I will end up jumping. >_< Safer to just spam EX fireballs! :(

Well that's probably the problem then, innit? That you're too scared to try super arts because you're so sure you'll just jump when actually if you did go for the super arts more often you'd be able to do 'em consistently.

Who dares wins and whatnot!

I'm gonna start practising a little every day now because on Makoto you can do chariot, fireball, chariot, st.FP (as opposed to my usual chariot, st.FP) after launching in the corner and that would be really handy against Vince!

Well, another day and another GVision RanBat, but this one is special.

Why? Well, it plays host to the farewell of one of Japan's foremost Dudley players, Kokujin. Alot of players turned up to see him off in his final acts of digital violence.

Kokujin was probably one of the top ranked Dudley players worldwide, he was a beast. There's a plethora of matches on my YouTube with him in, seach: 'Kokujin' 'SFIII' '3S'

So here it is, currently as a 202MB torrent file, but i'll be making the usual port to YouTube in due time.

Here's an interview with him from a geezer on SRK who also attended:

Okay so yesterday's ranbat was frickin crazy. Kokujin is a popular player. The retirement annoucment brought everybody out of the wood works and there was ATLEAST 70+ people at this tourny. But i made sure to go a little early so i could ask Kokujin some questions.

Q: Why are you quitting?

Kok: I think its about time I started to do something with my life rather than just fuckin around. Im going to start studying for (some legal certification). Plus, honestly, Ive kind of gotten bored.

Q: Are their any players in Nagoya that you might play against?

Kok: Well there arnt too many from Nagoya. The only two known ones are Momochi (ken? player) and Y-da(hugo player) Obviously not too many.

Q: Who do you think will be the best Dudley now?

Kok: I believe its either Aiku or Hong(from Australia originally from HK?) He has a very good eye, I think he will be good. All the other regular Dudley players have also retired such as Fujiwara and Jima.

Q: Where is Nuki?

Kok: I have no clue. I havnt kept in contact.

Q: So you dont think you will be trying to qualify for SBO?

Kok: Most likely not, no.

Q: Will you atleast attend?

Kok: Yeah I might attend.

Q: What about Evolution?

Kok: Mmm I dont know. I didnt go last year, so I might go. But not to play though.

Random notes about the tourny.

Too many fuckin people in a small ass place.

KO playing as Yang during casuals goes through 30 chuns from various people. At one point there was a Yang mirror match. The other yang was blue so it could have been Boss or it could have been another. KO squeeked by a win.

During the actual tourney KO beasts on RX's team.

Watching the KO and Kokujin matches were the most fun. Watch for them in the videos.

A random list of people i saw there:

KO

Kokujin

Boss

MOV

Tokido

KSK

RX

Roshihikari

Yamazaki

PinoAB7

Mago

Roo

Nachan

Jasumin

Koshun

Umezono

Ochibi

Vanao

YSB

Jiro(maybe)

AFM

Pierre

Nitto

TM

Make-inu

Aruka

Nanaichi

Dir-T

Nonsense

Hossy

and a whole shitload of other people.

Thank you TheShend! Downloading now. And an interesting interview there .

Re-reading my last post here I appear to have adopted a cockney posting style:

The 4th comment on that vid made me smile.

We await your return, warrior.

Hells yeah. I feel good that he's packing it in because he wants to do something with his life, though - it kind of fleshes out the picture a bit (I mean, clearly there was a reason he was so good at 3S).

Or maybe his parents found out what he was doing and threatened to kick him out. :o

Man, I expected better from Singho in those matches. I remember him being pretty good back when I used to play on Live.

Jim's game is coming along well, though. Nice partitioning going on with Urien. I think his reach suits your game well, man.

As ever, a big thanks to Shendy for keeping us up to date with 3S events around the world.

There's another one here called Akatsuki BLITZKAMPF, a doujin PC title apparantly, whatever that means. I prefer the look of Monster but this game has anime Nazi's as fighters, auto-win?

Is anyone here playing either of these online? More importantly, does anyone fancy some games sometime?

These are from the West Coast, USA which happens to be the strongest side for 3rd Strike. Enjoy!

Anyone want to see some UK matches/videos? Well here's 2 anyway!

Description: Back on the 17th & 18th March 2006 the UK sent 2 teams over to Stuttgart, Germany to take part in the Super Battle Opera 4 European Qualifiers. There were 10 teams in total, 2 from the UK, 1 from France and 7 from Germany. Ryan Hart and WaQs also went as UK supporters.

[Team BAD] Chunkis(KE), Raju(UR), The Prince(HU)

[Team UGLY] Harmonaz(GO), El Carpeto(OR), Rakurai(YU)

Description: Neo-Empire ran a UK tournament in January called Super vs Battle. There was a fair good turnout for the event with even a few europeans popping over. Anyway, this is a series of casual matches that took place at the Casino Arcade, Goodge St, London after the weekend event had finished.

Note: The SvB tournament was actually held at Yates's in Harrow on the 27th and 28th of January.

Allegedly on partnernet! If this is some sick joke aimed at me, i'll eat your children.

If it's it real, i'd pay for this again. Hopefully because they'll given us proper Sound options like the DC version (BGM to -13 thankyoverymuch) and ironing out stuff like Yang's SAIII de-synching players online. IF!

So the other day I discovered that, much to my disappointment, the Raging Demon can't be used on the Training SUV. :(

Then I tried XCOPY, which also failed. :(

I demand that these features be implemented in the next instalment. :)

Other fighting game news ahoy:

At the end of the month, there's the release of ArcSy's Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star for the PS2 (unlikely to ever get released outside of Japan due to copyrights), and at the end of May is the release of the latest (last?) revision of the almighty Guilty Gear XX, dubbed "Accent Core", featuring all kinds of new features, some ripped directly from SF3 (parrying, EX moves), and others mostly for presentation (all sounds re-recorded, new stages, new tracks etc.).

Cor, parrying!

In other news i've been sent an email with details of the next UK fighting tournament. The details aren't on the official website yet and they don't come on here to advertise the fact, so I don't think i'm stepping on anybodies toes doing this. So here it is!

Neo Empire is proud to present the UK’s latest Fighting Games Event – Ultimate Ranking Battle!

Casual setups for all games throughout the day plus tournaments for 5 games:

Gulity Gear: Slash

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection

Third Strike

Hyper SF2

Capcom vs SNK 2

+ Virtua Fighter 5 will be available to play on the day!

Sunday 25th March: Midday – 9.30PM

Go to here for more information and go to here for any questions.

I was tempted but I'm thinking right now that gaming needs to be put on hold.

I do have some killer matches to upload when I'm next home though. Vince persuaded me to play a few matches with him last week and there were some sweet ones. Each new set of matches I record makes what I've already got on my youtube channel look (even) shit(ter).

They have changed the sticks and buttons btw, much more responsive but the stick seems very low.

I haven't played any 3S in a very long time but might be tempted to pop along on Thursday if I'm free.
