Takeshi's Castle Special Earlier Today (wednesday)

On Challenge TV earlier, in kooky Japanese action gameshow Takeshi's Castle, contestants had to run an obstacle course which looked like it had been taken from a side-scrolling platformer.

They had to rush to the end to get there before a pink thing which was moving along the top of the 'screen'. The first obstacle the contestants had to overcome was a bunch of vampires or zombies leaping at them. Then they had to dodge a rolling boulder from above, then traverse a spinning roundabout of fire.

I might have thought it was from a Mario game, only it scrolled from right to left, and there were paintings of cartoon ghosts on the walls. So does anyone know what game it was from?

I'd imagine it wasn't a specific game, just a generic design by the art department. Although there were a few actual Takeshi's Castle videogames produced in the 80's:

I saw that today, it was fooking ace, they even applied comedy video game sound effects to it. The guys putting out kicks at the contestants heads as they ran by, Brill!

Now if only Craig Charles would shut the fuck up!

I also read today that Beat Takeshi published a video game in the 80's which had an opening disclaimer stating that game was made by people who hated video games, and you had to hit the end boss 20,000 times to beat it.

That really blew my mind!!!

No he didn't. He was accused of such and was held in prison on remand for several months. When he went to trial, he was found innocent of the charges and set free. Strange how no-one remembers the facts.

He seems very bitter about the whole experience, for some reason. Just because his career, name and reputation have been destroyed by what turned out to be groundless accusations.
