After watching commando this week, and reading the ruthlessreview 80s film guide, i have come to the conclusion that the 80s were the best era for movies. Action movies were just that "action" movies. There were shitloads of killing with ever higher body counts and ingenious ways of killing someone.

These days action, has been replaced by OTT CGI shots which aint the same are they? Predator, commando, robocop, deathwish series, conan, terminator etc shit on todays action flicks like independance day, the mummy, xmen etc.

Im going to get shitloads of 80s dvds now, and have fun.

about 2quid from play

Bloody hell, that looks amazing! I've never heard of it before. I love its generic action film title. Itprobably means nothing in the context of the film.

Big Trouble in Little China!

That and Die Hard are two of my favourite 80's films, I'd loved to have been an 80's cinemagoer. I found Big Trouble with a great cheesy Chinese sleeve cover in my Chinese hometown two years ago, but the DVD turned out to be faulty (possibly pirated). Typical!

Every time I see DIE HARD 2 it makes me realise how shit modern day action movies are.

At the time of it's release, I remember everyone thinking DIE HARD 2 was a bit, well, bollocks. But look at it now and it's 5 times more exciting and entertaining than most actioners I've seen in recent years.

Die Hard 2 is ace. It's certainly not as good as the first, but it recaptures the feel very well. The airport location is used brilliantly - there's a great sense of place.

The Annex Skywalk bit in particular is very good.

Incompetant SWAT leader: "Hey buddy, what do I look like to you?"

Robert Patrick: "a sitting duck."

Probably the last great action movie ;)

The only film in recent years that seems to have come anywhere near the classic action movies of the 80's is "Welcome to the Jungle". It managed to strike a good balance between ridiculous over the top violence and comedy.

...plus it had a midget running away from a bar-room brawl ;)

These days nobody seems to understand that topless muscle men firing big guns and taking on whole armies of cannon fodder while spouting one liners make for a perfect evenings entertainment.

....I now intend to go track down a copy of 'Action Jackson' on DVD
