No such thing as hardcore in comics. Everyone's work is so varied and different that it's highly subjective. There are only a few things that everyone gets together and says is great. I would guess that Sin City is one of them.

All the truly hardcore people within comics (i.e. famous writers/artists) have been trying to push comics towards 'casual' readers for ages.

If anyone ever professes to be a comics geek and tells you what you're reading is crap (or somehow not hardcore), tell them to fuck off.

I never read the graphic novel, so I didn't know a lot about it. But that trailer has certainly got me interested. Looks great. And certainly better than the Sim City movie I originally read it as
