Has The Matrix Been Cut?

Warner had the option of releasing it uncut in cinemas as an 18, but cho$e to cut the headbutts for a 15 rating. After looking on the BBFC website, it doesn't seem to have been re-rated at all... They would've re-submitted the film to the BBFC if they put the cut scenes back in, wouldn't they? :(

Walexy points for a certain forumite if true, but apparently, yes, they're back in. They were allegedly taken out by Warner, not the BBFC, for the original releases.

10 seconds were originally required to be cut by the BBFC. It has not been resubmitted since, so it should still be cut.

[EDIT]

I've just had it confirmed that it is still cut.

That's not the way the BBFC told it to some of the press; they say that the headbutts were in the cinema release, and the VHS release, and that Warner only pre-emptively cut the headbuts from the DVD release.

I've got the VHS at home, and I've not seen it in a while, but talk with mates has confirmed that the headbutts are in the original VHS version. I don't have a clue about the new DVD release though.

If they haven't put them back in for the new DVD, I'm appalled, because the amount of violence throughout the trilogy hardly warrants cutting somebody smacking their head into someone with very little display of blood.

The BBFC's policy about headbutts in ridiculous. I can understand them taking them out of a childrens film, say Spiderman 2 or Attack of the Clones, because it is a pretty brutal act and even though I think it's an over-reaction I can understand the reasoning behind it. However, being cut from an adult film...come on, that's stupid, especially in a film full of chop-socky.

I've got the VHS and I'm pretty sure the head butts aren't in there. It never used to be unusual for films to have more cut from the sell-through version than from the cinema version (quite often the VHS version for rental would be more cut than the cinema version but less cut than the sell-through version) but now that the censors seem to be so much more relaxed about things this kind of thing seems a little old-fashioned.

A 15 isn't an adult film.

It's adult enough, considering 15 films can have virtually as many tits and decapitations as they want. Not allowing a single headbutt onscreen, when you consider some other the battles in Saving Private Ryan or Braveheart being allowed is incredibly stupid. 15 is the highest age rating in Japan, and don't get me started on what a fuck-up the American ratings system is, and neither of them even censor headbutts for kids.

15 is the highest rating here as well, but in the UK it is not. In the UK an adult film is an 18. That's simply the way it goes. They wanted a 15 certificate, so the cuts were made to make that certificate.
