The Punisher

Just visited GamesTrailers and gave The Punisher videos a quick watch. All seems very Dead to Rights, with of course, the interrogation scenes seeming like an interesting idea, if fully exploited. I mean if the information you get (or don't get) actually effects the course of the game, then I'm interested. If however most of the villains simply say "I know nothing", bar a few end of level characters who you have to interrogate successfully, then meh.

Anyone played or heard much about this, as I say it seems like very generic gameplay, but if they've used the interrogation angle well, I may give it a look.

I played the PC demo last week and it was fucking shite. It was just a "demo" mind but it was deleted within an hour, fairly basic 3rd person actioner, with dodgy graphics and poor animation.

I thought the animation in the videos was fairly decent. The re-loading looked very fluid anyway, and the voice acting seems above par. You seem to be able to quickly zoom in for a more precise shot too, but god knows it's going to need a fair bit more variation in gameplay to stand out from the crowd. As I say, I think it will rise or fall on how it uses it's much vaunted interrogation feature.

I thought it was quite fun. Graphics were good, in a deliberately-cartoony-comic book sort of way, and I actually got different information from each guy I interrogated. For example one guy said 'So-and-so hates animals', he was reffering to the boss character so I guess you could use that information when you fight him (which you didn't get to in the demo). Interrogation doesn't work well on a mouse mind, this will make a better console game.

'Interrogation' is a pretty weak USP though, isn't it?

From what YellowSamuel is saying here, it sounds like '221B Baker Street' or 'Cluedo'. :D

Shooting monsters isn't the issue. I was referring to games like this and Manhunt, whereby human characters are disposed of in ever more gruesome ways. There is just no need for it.

The point I was trying to make is that its there because people enjoy it.

Whilst I'm not promoting violence for violence sake, the Punisher story is a violent and gritty tale. To tone that down for the video game would be doing the franchise a disservice.

Fair enough, mate, but let's not turn this into a thread about violence in games. This is a thread about the Punisher game. There's millions of threads about violence in games already.

Every thread of late seems to devolve into one of about 5 arguments, has anyone noticed? :)
