Twin Peaks

Sad as it makes me to say it - I just don't think another series is needed. They seem like they are going to wrap up the storyline that started in the original series with this one. Anything else, and the only motivation would be to turn it into some sort of ongoing franchise show like Lost or X-Files, and Frost/Lynch's world deserves more than that.

So are the last two episodes coming tomorrow night?

Haven't really read a lot of analysis and am still finding the whole thing pretty baffling - but it does seem to be coagulating into some sort of story or narrative that I can just about get my head around. Although there's a hell of a lot that I just don't understand the significance of at all.

Seems to be building towards some sort of confrontation in Twin Peaks, now - with both Coopers heading there as well as most of the other important characters.

Some things that I just don't have the first clue what they could mean:

Diane - Said she is Janey E's sister? Now turns out to be a tulpa - didn't she think it was strange that her sister was married to a doppelganger of her FBI colleague? What's going on there?

Is a tulpa the same as a doppelganger? (I know in mythology/folklore they are very different things - in TP universe they could just be different words for the same sort of thing, I guess).

Where is Bob in all of this? Bad Coop is Cooper's doppelganger from the Lodge, right? Is it ever clearly implied that he is possessed by Bob (in the same way that Leland Palmer was in the original series, I guess).

The woman with no eyes - Clueless about her role in it all.

Audrey - makes sense that she is in a coma I guess, as the speculation seems to be.

Why did the Giant (Fireman) put Laura in a bubble and send her to Earth ? (Was that actually what he did? The memory of episode 8 is a dark blur to me now - can't wait to rewatch the whole lot actually).

Yes.

She's probably never seen him. I think she said that her and her sister don't get along and she hadn't seen her in ages.

Don't think they're the same thing. The dopplegangers come from the Black Lodge, the "tulpas" are manufactured or willed into being in some way.

Bob was "in" evil Cooper for a while (he was shown in his reflection in the prison cell) until evil Cooper was shot, at which point he was "removed" by the woodsmen (you can see Bob's face in the black blobs that are removing), seemingly giving evil Cooper a bonus extra life.

Yup, me too, but the name suggests some connection to Diane (as mentioned earlier, Naido is kinda like the word "Diane" said backwards). Perhaps she's the real Diane ... peoples memories seem to be getting swiss-cheesed by something. I'm thinking of the scene where Gordon Cole and Albert reveal that they had forgotten all about meeting Phillip Jeffries in the FBI office (in the FWWM scene) until Gordon was reminded of it in a dream. It's possible the real Diane looks nothing like Laura Dern, and no-one can remember.

Yeah, or some kind of mental fugue that she's just emerging from now.

It suggested to me that she was intended to counteract Bob and the other evil forces that were released by the atomic explosion. Don't really know how effective she was.

Anyway, I'm absolutely GAGGING to see this finale ... and after months of getting home from work on Monday and watching TP before I do anything else, I'm off on holiday tomorrow and won't have access to TV or internet until Tuesday. :(

Did we ever get to the bottom of what versions of Fire Walk With Me are out there?

I remember a bit of discussion on it further back in the thread.

There are several Youtube uploads all labelled as Fire Walk With Me complete movie, but from what I can see, all of them are the Missing Pieces (run time of around 1 hr 15).

Was there ever a version that included the extra scenes edited into the movie?

Wikipedia seems to suggest so, but is a little muddled on the subject.

I thought the missing pieces were brilliant and Lynch made a big mistake removing that stuff.    It changed the tone completely and lost a lot of the warmth and humour.  I think this is why FWWM got such a bad reaction from a lot (not all) of the audience.   It just felt so different from the TV show.

Well. There we are.

Naido was who we thought she was after all.

Diane's disapearance was odd, especially as Coop just drives off without looking for her.

Richard and Linda in the note. Richard Horne, probably. Linda? There was a Linda mentioned in one of the earlier episodes, but not since; She's the wife of Mickey, and is apparently a disabled veteran, and needed a motorized wheelchair. Also "Richard and Linda. Two birds with one stone." Wonder if Linda is Richard's sister. Probably not, but who knows.

Looks like that little time travel jump by Coop has fucked up the timeline, which has been supported by the Secret History of Twin Peaks because of the differences in the various events described in that book. What year is it? I'd hazard a guess that something went wrong when Diane and Coop crossed over - "Is it future? Or is it past?" Either way, Coop is now a bit like Jeffries. *insert Jumanji meme here*

And I guess Lynch forgot about Audrey after her dance.

That ending though:

I woke up at 5am this morning 5AMMMM to watch this as using Sky Go on Demand.  What I normally do with this and GoT is log in early, download it, watch GoT before work at 6 then Twin Peaks on the train.  Except, today, neither episode 17 or 18 are available on demand

grrrr

Uhhhh...

Spoiler

I figured that Coop had borked the timeline by preventing Laura's death (maybe), but everything else, dunno. I didn't much like that for the whole of the last episode he was being rather robotic, felt jobbed out after getting him back finally. I wouldn't say I was disappointed, and it might have been naive to expect more closure, but don't end on an actual cliffhanger, man!

I could have gone my entire life without a Dale Cooper love scene.
