Read their piece about PoP Warrior Within this morning. Got to say that I couldn't agree more.

I always tell myself that it should always be about the game...so even if the music, marketing etc. are naff, if it plays well - I'll buy it.

Not this time though.

They seem to get things bang on most times on GC these days. Except for their San Andreas review, of course.

They were quite harsh on minor things like the camera and the targeting system. They gave it an 8, as I recall. It wasn't a bad review, it just read like they weren't fans of the series anyway and were looking for things to criticise.

GameCentral is a fantastic read and I think their reviews are up there with the best of them. Mostly spot on.

To be fair the targeting system and camera are fucking crap in GTA3, VC and SA.

They didn't like it. Said it had been stripped of its identity. Can't remember the score, but i think it was 7 or higher.

ah right. i wouldn't agree, it's kept it's identity but the combat is still too much, the bosses can be a pain in the arse, the pacing is a bit off and the heavy metal music used during combat is awful. it's still good though.

The first boss is FAR too hard, particularly if you don't pick up a second weapon.

The first thing you have to do is turn the slow motion off.

I'm really not convinced by it at all.

i agree. i almost gave up, seriously. if it wasn't for people on this here forum telling me how much better it gets then i would have. especially seeing as you have another two such fights within about the first hour of play. but as promised it does get so much better, and at times surpasses the first one.

Just completed a review for Pro-G which gives it a comparative roasting, just a few tweaks needed then hopefully it'll be up on the site and you can all aid me with opinions.

PoP WW infuriates me you know. it has some of the best bits of any game this year and also some of the worst bits of any game ever. how did they manage that?

I know, the pacing is stupidly unbalanced. You defeat a boss and as a result are rewarded with three Dahaka chases, what the fuck were they thinking?

My problem with the current GC crew (despite them not being very funny at all) is that they'll have 8 page review of a game which will usually go something like:

1 - Mostly irrelevant intro

2-6 - Overblowing really small issues and niggles

7 - Slightly touching upon the good stuff in the game

8 - Final score, 8-9 out of 10. With virutally no insight as to why it scored this after such a negative review.

Main references being the GTA:SA and Halo 2 reviews. I've got no problem at all with them picking these games apart or being dissapointed by them, but you cant write an 80% negative review and then give the game 9/10. It just doesn't work, have the balls to give it a low score if it's how you really feel.
