I was really sure there would be a trailer with Transformers 2. We're running out of big films to slap a trailer on to unless Fox are going to stick it onto the front of something they're sure is going to go tits up in order to get people to buy tickets for said film to see the trailer. (won't be the first time).

Edit: I'm glad that the footage descriptions pretty much match - last thing you need is to read one report that differs wildly from another leaving you to believe one or both reports is fake.

Likewise! It's strange though, because nothing about the story or the concept art/video game shots have really excited me in any way, and Cameron's fucking hour-long speech at E3 was utterly dull.

But it's Cameron, man.

I'm finding this really hard to get excited about. I'm avoiding the spoilers though, but the cynical part of my brain is fully prepared for disappointment after all the promises. I hope I'm wrong though.

Yeah. Im sort of quietly hoping for this. I dont want to jinx it, as its been a while since James Cameron did something genuinly fanstastic, but he's had the track record to prove that anythings possible. Not only that but James Cameron held Avatar back for the right technology to catch up to cinemas for the best overall experince - I respect him for that - plus its returning to the world of Science fiction / action. The man simply knows how to present this genre in a very down to earth manner in such a way it doesnt feel pretentous or forced but somewhat hellishly and awesomly real.

Same here. It seems to be one of those movies you just have to see, simply because you've never seen anything like it before. Indeed a bit like Jurassic Park. Even though that movie had little else to offer than spectacular visuals, whereas the plot and especially characters in a James Cameron film are way better than in your average blockbuster.

I think you're right. I'd say that Cameron's emphasis on characters and solid design means that, for me at least, even his early films have yet to significantly date. It makes them more than just special effects blockbusters.

I'll be gutted if this disappoints.

This has been on my periphery for a while now and I don't know too much about it, apart from it's supposed to be amazing.

Only to a select few unfortunately.

But I might try to be strong and not watch any footage until I can watch the movie itself.

James Cameron's return after years in the wilderness, looks like a shoe-in for blockbuster of the year (considering all the other contenders are falling at the first hurdle), great to see him back working in the genres which made his name (I tend to forget he made Titanic...), looking forward to Cameron's long gestating take on Gunnm too.

This and the fact that he's working with a lot of money and cutting edge technology. And of course the comments from people who've seen footage, including many famous directors.

It's great to see good ol Cameron making a comeback, cinemas really missed his blockbuster films.

The one thing I am happy about too is that even though it's a 20th Century Fox film you can guarantee that whatever the film's like it will be Camerons film and not some studio interfered with pish, I'd like to think he has the final cut on this.

I think Titanic is a really good disaster film (the bit where Rose goes back in to look for the imprisoned Jack is really quite scary and claustrophobic, with the ship's hull creaking and the lights failing). And the shots at the end with all the frozen bodies floating in the water do bring home the scale of the tragedy.

But unfortunately it's all spoiled by that song. :)

I never saw Ghosts of the Abyss (I think that its reviews were the first time I'd heard that 3D films were coming back), but that documentary he did with Tony Robinson about his last trip down to the wreck was really good.

Yep, Cameron claimed that once Spielberg and Jackson visited the set they were convinced the technology worked and decided to move forward with Tintin using the same system.

It's something to do with them being able to quite accurately represent CGI creation on film as soon as a scene is shot. Cameron claims that in the near future entire scenes with real actors will be viewable with near finished CGI the second 'cut' has been called. Allows them to know, even now, what a scene or shot will roughly look like in the finished version without having to wait months for the CGI to be added.

I think. Or that's part of it anyway.

That all sounds about right apart from one small detail. I think you could be right in terms of the layout of the shots/scenes/environment but render times are nowhere near the level they'd need to be for this to happen. It sounds good though in terms of realtime previz and camera tracking. He's certainly pushing things forward which given the neolithic technical levels of some directors is a good thing.

Full Announcement of the Comic-Con lineup is due next week but this slipped out via /film

ComingSoon has posted a photo (right) of one of the banners on display outside the San Diego Convention Center, promoting James Cameron’s Avatar. The image shows a close-up of one of the ten foot blue tribal alien creatures called Na’vi. Warner Bros’ panel announcement included confirmation that Hall H will be set-up to screen 3D footage, which pretty much gaurentees that Fox will present footage from Avatar in 3D. I’m guessing that the same footage that premiered in Amsterdam at the cinema expo will be screened.
