Official Metroid Prime 2 Thread

I love the music from that bit. I've watched the video of it on IGN a few times now. If only Retro would make a team based 'true' FPS starring the Federation Troopers. It'd be a neat spin off.

Watch it!

That is the first thing ive seen of Metroid Prime 2 that actually made me really want the game.

I'm a big Metroid fan, but Metroid Prime 2 has until now just seemed a bit.. "meh" to me.

All screenshots/movies ive seen seemed so dark and little varied. It just looked like Metroid Prime with less variety. Few enemy types too.

This movie on the other hand looked really cool.

But Im still not quite convinsed this is a must buy.

How is the game compeared to Metroid Prime?

Is the locations, enemies and so on less varied?

Whats really *new* in this game?

And yeah .. that music is really cool.

You know that music is from Super Metroid?

Started playing this last night after a quick go on the POP WW demo (seems ok..ish). Feels and looks just like Prime - can't remember having to scan this much in the original. Seems solid, polished and fun, if nothing earth-shattering. Switched off after second save point. looking forward to getting on with it after SA is finished( really want to go back to Halo again -but that will have to wait in line) Too many games as usual. Almost annoying.

This looks like more of the same, and I don't think I care. Also, it looks to have nothing to do with metroids. I love metroids.

There are metroids in it:

Just scroll down the page to the "video Review" and press "stream for free".

Well.. Im not sure there are "several Metroids" in it.. but i'ts atleast one Metroid in that video.

A Metroid game without a single Metroid would be a bit weird ;)

.::: Of course there are metroids. Pretty early on even, Space Pirates still use them. <_<

The game has turned into a fantastic combat heavy spin-off. It's insane now. Really it is. I can't believe the start was so below par in comparison to where I am now.

Last night I defeated a boss, in what is probably the best boss battle ever for me. Just like mentioned eralier in this thread I got beaten to a pulp multiple times only to recover and kick arse as revenge. Yes, it's hard but it's fun hard. :)

Want to know more about that boss (really don't click if you don't wanna know, I'll spoil everything, and it's the second temple boss for those playing)) (Really, I'm serious here)?

Click For Spoiler
It's name is Chykka, it starts off as a 'larva' which looks a lot like a whale and act like one. It keeps making waves which will push you off and damage you while you're on a tiny platform with acid all around.

Now the great thing is, is that bosses in Echose seem to be sculpted with the Zero Mission School of Bosses in mind, in other words there's always an oppurtunity to pick up power-ups, be it in extra enemies, destroyable projectiles, etc. This is really brilliant as it allows for the heavy fluctuation in power between you and the boss, you migth be losing but even at 30 energy I got back.

Because of that I got around to experimenting with the whale, and eventually shot it down, in what was a pretty hefty battle.

Then the platform devided itself into three pieces with grapple points in between and an adult Chykka (giant wasp) emerged...

This battle was crazy. You need to stun it, then lock upon it's wings with the Seeker Missiles. But that wasn't working. It took me some time before I discovered what to do, I had to lock it from *behind*. So this needs you to stun it, then swing via grapple to it's backside and lock it down.

After a few times it will fall into the acid and it'll have a giant eggsac with shoots mini-chykka larva and it'll go mental at shooting acid at you. Pretty tough AND it'll occasionally raise the acid over the paltforms, meaning you'll have to swing from a grapple point. Swinging there I turned towards it and kept shooting

And that was the exact moment when I went...

*WOW!*

Here I was, swinging like Jane, mind still clouded in battle after being nearly killed during that battle for approximately 4 times, and again being run down to one spare energy tank, with a determination set to bringing down the thing no matter what the cost.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that is probably The Best Gaming Moment Ever for me. Not Ninja Gaiden, not Prime, not even one of EDGE's [10] games ever produced such a moment for me. Screw multiplayer, if I can get this experience in a single player game I don't need no other to fight against.

The game really turned 180 on me. The game's forte's lie in different areas than other Metroids, but it's clear Retro decided to take a certain direction and take it with such force that it's deficiencies are now 'logical', Retro simply didn't build on that side of the game.

I'm also now at Sanctuary Fortress, which is FAR more stunning than Phandrana Drifts. This is really worth pulling through for. Especially for the enemies contained within.

The lack of save points is still a big problem, this day I got stung again by it, having to redo another large section. Multiplayer is also incredibly sucky now in comparison. Sure it's a nice add-on, which is how I viewed it at the beginning. But after having experienced the combat in single player, multiplayer is too lame for words. Really lame. Really, you'll wonder why it was included in this sorry state. The sad thing is that probably everybody will think like that after playing the single player.

Although the comparison is still wrong, yet the tranquilized fanboy inside of feels inclined to say that Echoes beats HALO 2's sorry excuse for a single player game with no limbs attached. If HALO 2 single player was a bit of a downer for you, consider getting a GC and Echoes as compensation.

One can only wonder what'll happen when Bungie and Retro ever get to work together and combine their single- and multiplayer efforts.

Indeed, Prime was Metroid 3D, not Super Metroid 3D, but Echoes is Metroid 3D EX+ Alpha Combat Heavy Edition. Prime may be the more true transgression, but Echoes is certainly worth every drop of sweat you'll have to pay for experiencing it.

Now If you'll excuse me, I have a boss to defeat exclusively in morph ball form.

.::: Oh yes, the one complaint that still stands; the HUD might be the same but the menu-GUI sucks arse. The wireframe menu's may LOOK cool, they certainly aren't when you need to use them.

Shouldn't have been fixed cause it wasn't broke. Now it is.

Damn, that lenghty post from Cyhwuhx almost made my dick hard. Almost.

I know what you mean. God, I'm tempted to click on the spoilers just to give me even more of a chubby over this.

Must resist. The postman will be my bestest friend ever if he delivers tomorrow. I was hoping to get it on Saturday but alas! I did get Edge though, with a review AND a two page ad rubbing salt into the wound.
