Official Metroid Prime 2 Thread

I think the controll system works just perfect.

This isn't a fp-shooter. the discussion if the cube needs a high profile is fp-shooter to battle halo half life 2 and killzone, is perhaps a sound discussion, but not to be held here.

Can't wait until it comes. Mp was bliss, maybe this'll be bliss too.

I'm evaluating the game for one of my media essays as an investigation on genre conventions, and I've said the game is more akin to Myst with combat than Quake with plot. The emphasis really is on exploration more than shooting everything that moves.

Even though you can.

Why do people always put "official" in their thread titles? It's not official unless it actually is official!

Erm, because it was requested on the first page.

And like someone else said, it keeps all discussion of the game in this here thread. You dig? Roll on Saturday.

Metroid Prime 2 - will I still need to hold a button in just to look up and down? will I get RSI again? will it still look and feel lovely but frustrate me at every oppertunity?

It'll still rock. Sorry you didn't like the control system, you missed out on one of my personal top five.

I think many people see first person and immediately think "shooter", which Metroid Prime is not. It's a first person adventure. If the camera was about six feet back from Samus' head, I think less people would have a problem with it.

Wouldn't be able to see past her crazy shoulders tho.

I'll be grabbing my US copy this saturday.

I've been playing thru the original again and it's so good. Just did the Phazon Mines tonight. I can't believe people complained about that! It was great fun.

Apart from that piggin' Omega Pirate.

I've been playing the original again too, and that bit's still a bastard.

Echoes despatched yesterday - hope it's here for the weekend.

After finishing H2 and HL2 within 2 days of getting them I'm hoping Metroid Prime 2 can last longer.

Yeah, Halo 2 took only a few days, Halo 1 took me a few weeks. (And this is during term/in the holidays respectively, so its even worse.)

MP1 took me a while because everytime I got a new item, I'd go back through the whole map looking for new areas that I could now get too, so MP2 should be a nice lengthy game.

.::: Got my copy of Echoes. PAL version even.

So far no goodies when you boot it with the same memory card containing the save from Prime. Longevity of the enemies seem to have been toned down a bit in comparison to the previous build I played.

Will update when I get to my new suit again.

.::: Gah, not real nice, already had my first crash. :/ This is why I dislike the lesser amount of Save Points, was set back a boss, multiple items and a lot of scans... So far nothing changed that much.

[edit] BTW if there are questions, shoot. And as you can see in my sig, some scan-logs are rather nifty.

.::: Well the game gives you less saves 'en route'. I've encountered only a hand full of 'em, while already having recovered three abilities. Just like now really, I've just defeated a boss and have a shiny new ability, a shiny new key, and shiny new log-scans, but not a save point in sight. Now I wouldn't mind all this had it not been for that crash.

I'm now waiting extra seconds near doors to give my Cube the extra time to cope. I don't know if it helps, but I'm certainly more 'paranoia' about exploring.

And yes, you could see it as actually helping the atmosphere. But that's a bit far fetched...

.::: It's tougher overall. The first 'dark' Space Pirates you encounter are just a 'normal' enemy but can wipe you away easy peasy if you're not paying enough attention.

As for the locales. They're ok. Seeing the temple grounds for the first time with the gigantic roots going upwards is 'wow'. But the rest is.. pretty samey. It's less defined as Prime, I've been in multiple zones now, but they just blend in with each other nicely. More natural indeed, but it makes everything a large chunk as of yet.

Dark Samus though, it's a living 'wow'. I want more of it.

And appearantly Samus' her suit acquired on Zebes has the serial number SA1-4468-VM6-P. :) I wonder if it actually stands for something...

.::: I must say it's a hard point to judge. Prime was tougher than normal for me the first time around, subsequent plays were easy as pie, even on hard. This is definitely a bit more challenging in comparison. I find myself thinking in lesser 'tactics' as I've used in Phazon Mines. Rather take everything one step at a time, and it's keeping me alive.

I'd say it's a bit tougher, but to be honest it just doesn't really build up and throws some tougher enemies at you real quick. Nothing truly exceptional.

I think it's made with Prime-survivors in mind.
