I imagine they'll be a fair load once it launches in Japan, probably, maybe a big name like lik-sang is a good bet for 2/12

fuck knows when I'll get the US one I ordered from play-asia, got it pre'd before they stopped taking them, but I don't imagine that'll guarantee anything. If Nintendo weren't being such pricks with the Euro launch....

Went to the importers in Akihabara today to pick up MP2 and he reckons they'll probably be scarce for a wee bit. Same thing happened here with the SP. You'd see a bloody six year old with one on the train and want to mug him. Took about six weeks to lay my hands on one. Might just invest in a balaclava in a couple of weeks. :D

I was over there for the time of the GBA launch. The 'shortages' were totally stage-managed. One or two stores had them (but they had thousands) other stores had none. It was one-per-customer so it was a matter of wandering back and forth buying them one at a time (i was getting about 5 or 6). I could have bought 60 if I wanted.

If I manage to pick one up on Sunday in NY, I promise that I won't come here and shove it in your faces by posting pictures of me playing Mario 64 on here.

mainly because I won't have any way of uploading photos.

I can't wait to pictochat with myself.

You could get two...

If anyone else has an order with Play-Asia, they have just sent this announcement:

Delivery schedule, alternative options & new orders

We are expecting mass shipment of the very first US version Nintendo DS™ consoles as well as games within the following week (between Monday, November 22nd and Saturday, November 27th). Due to the shortage of US Nintendo DS™ units made available into the market during the first weeks, we will currently not be able to predict a precise dispatch schedule for every customer with a pending preorder at the moment. All units will be shipped out in first ordered, first served basis taking all humanly possible circumstances into account.

Japanese Nintendo DS™ consoles will become available just around 1 week after we are taking shipments of US version models, which is also the time we estimate supply to increase.

In order to speed up the delivery process for those waiting to get their hands on the Nintendo DS™ console, all customers with a pending preorder can now take advantage of chosing a second option in their customer account. If you have already ordered the US Nintendo DS™ and are willed to accept shipment of a Japanese DS as well, you are able to select this as your second choice. Whichever model can be allocated for your order first, will then be shipped out once available (without any price difference).

Further to be noted is that the official Asian version Nintendo DS™ console has been postponed for an early release in 2005 (possibly January 2005). All units officially distributed in Hong Kong prior to this date will be Japanese version consoles. Customers with a pending Asian version Nintendo DS™ console are able to select a Japanese/US model as alternative option in order to speed up their shipping process.

Finally, new orders have now been opened for the Japanese version Nintendo DS™ at a currently revised price of US$ 189. There's a limitation of 2 units per customer. Preorders will be granted the previous price of $169.

As a reminder, all Nintendo DS™ consoles and games are region free. Additionally, all Nintendo DS™ consoles support multi language (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish or Japanese).

My second DS is on order with them (one for me, one for the girlfriend), so I'm off to sign-up to have a Japanese one if it becomes available sooner.

Actually, I went on a shopping spree today and visited both Kobe and Osaka Sofmaps and perused their DS posters with the big "not taking any more pre-orders" stickers on them. At both stores, after asking about availability, the sticker was ripped off and was informed that the situations changed and pre-orders for launch day are available once again. Yay!

I suggest fellow Japan located viewers re-check their local stores for availability.

Just remember to be gentle with us when you get it. We'll be feeling quite emotional.

Did you order any other games? I'm looking forward to hearing some forum views of M64 DS though.

Odered Wario from Japan, too, but the missus is giving me that for Christmas.

After that, the wait for Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, Viewtiful Joe and the new Mario game begins.

I can't wait for SM64DS, though. One of my favourite games ever, and now I'm finally getting to play more levels.

i haven't had any sort of reply from them to my email. might just cancel as their communication on this matter has been shite.

From what I understand, and from the look of their site, they are a pretty small company.

I expect at the moment they are getting a huge fucking shed-load of whining e-mails every day from people asking when they can expect to get their DSes. Christ give the guys a break.

It's not their fault and there's very little they can do, and I suspect they're doing everything they can, and I'm not some big VG+ fanboy - I've never even used them before.

I don't know what the hell people e-mailing them expect to hear - especially not someone who has already read this thread. All they are going to do is tell you the same as they've told everyone else.

Here is what we know:

1) You can get a basic idea of where in the queue you order is from your order number, they seem to range from the 2000s to the 6000s. Yes, these are for all orders, but you should still be able to judge where about your order lies, from replies they given to other people, it seems they can't tell you much more.

2) They expect they will be able to fulfil all orders within the first two weeks.

I don't see what else you expect them to be able to tell you in your email that you don't already know. If you think you can get it quicker or sooner for somewhere else then fine, cancel your order - it should help move me up the queue at any rate.

Will waiting up to 2 weeks really kill you???
