Old Dirty Bastard R.i.p

I never expected the first of the Clan to drop so soon. I had really, really hoped to see every member of the Clan live at some point before I died - but now it'll never happen. ODB was a fucking legend to me. If there is ever a voice with as much character and colour in hip-hop again then I'd be extremely surprised. It's not just those wacky singing verses either - it's those gruff, raw deliveries on classics like 7th Chamber and Protect Ya Neck that made him one of the illest. I haven't heard any of his new material, but I am holding on to the hope that Damon doesn't get his hands on it, rather RZA and the rest of the group transform it into something releasable.

Tomorrow I'll be pumping ODB from my stereo.

R.I.P.

The RZA actually saw the roc-a-fella deal as being a good thing.

Obviously, he hasn't listened to Jay Z since Reasonable Doubt.

This is really shitty and scares the fuck outa me. A clsoe friend of mine is in da hospital now after an accident doing weights. We along with the doctors still don't know what's wrong with him. It's strange that people can still die from random shit like this.

I fuck. This is really awful.

I wanna cry.

:)

Did you people miss the part about him abusing the welfare system, being a felon, and fathering 13 children (with how many different mothers) ?

Who cares about this shithead, by all acounts he was a scourge upon humanity.

People that actually contribute positively to society die everyday with no news coverage. As for his "artistic" contributions to the music world, he was a has been that had a few hits in the 90s.

I don't really care about his personal life that much, thats not why i'm into him.

Like if Michael Jackson got found out he had fondled boys, id still like his music and be sad if he died.

Except thats a stupid analogy.

But anyway, ODB was part of the Wu, and therefore amazing. You obviously don't know what you're talking about so why post?

I don't give a damn about his music either. That doesn't mean I couldn't comment on the sad turn of events recently and give a heartfelt RIP.

Grow up you pathetic human.

His first LP remains criminally underrated, even by Wu fans.

It's where you'll find some of the rawest and heaviest beats RZA ever put together, as well as the best/funniest examples of Ol' Dirty's lifting classic funk verses and making them his own. Of all his quirks this was the one I loved him most for.

Incidentally, the death of Rick James - aside from making me feel profoundly sad in itself - made me wonder whether ODB would be around much longer or not.

RIP Big Baby Jesus.

You're up there with the greats as far as I'm concerned.

It's common sense to help a child in pain (and he was with the rest of the band) I never said he was *that* heartless, but by all means he never saw his 13 children. And anyone foolish enough to take so many drugs and have so much unprotected sex was always going to die early anyway.

I do however feel somewhat bad for him that his last hit of any size was a duet with an Nsync member. Nobody deserves to go out like that, no matter what a worthless human being they were!

Most of the people in this thread will have heard it already, but if not, download one of my favourite ODB tunes right now. This song encompasses everything that makes him such a great personality. Hilarious intro, some mad singing, heavy verses and a sick beat from the RZA.

He created some of the best hip-hop of all time. That is not worthless.
