Any pub recommendations for great beer (that aren't too expensive!) in central London. I'm staying in E1 with work all next week.

Started writing this and forgot to send. Would heavily recommend Mikkeller Brewpub if you can get there.

Mother Kelly’s - E2

https://motherkellys.co.uk/taproom-bethnal-green-e2/
23 taps, nice and chilled out.

Boxcar Taproom - E2

https://boxcarbrewery.co.uk/taproom
Small but good for a quick drink.

Forest Road Brewing Taproom - E8

https://www.forestroadbrewery.com/pages/taproom
E8 but literally along the road from Boxcar. Very cheap.

Mikkeller Brewpub -EC1

Amazing beer brewed on site, great food.

The best one you'll get is the Hop Burns Black advent calendar, but it sells out and is quite expensive. Well over a hundred quid I'm sure but the beer will all be incredible.

The Craft Metropolis one is just as good:

but at £160 is just as steep!

Depends how close you are to it, but if you can get over there the Pressure Drop x Verdant tap room is incredible:

Open wed-sun.

Also if you've never been, the Bermondsey beer mile is essential on a Thursday or Friday. A short 5 minute walk from London Bridge.

The Pressure Drop X Verdant bar looks great, thanks for sharing.

That's a good price, but it is a real shame what happened to Meantime.

One of the initial vanguard of craft beer breweries in the UK, their sale to SAB Miller in 2015 essentially totally killed them. I almost feel like SAB bought them just to get them out of the market.

https://zythophile.co.uk/2015/05/16/why-meantime-sold-up-to-sab-miller-the-inside-story/

That article makes for a very sad read now, given what they've become:

Quote

There was “a buzz of excitement” among Meantime’s senior managers after the news was announced, Miller said. “We’re all looking forward to the opportunities that partnering SAB Miller brings. This isn’t a deal where we’re putting our feet up, going and lying in the sun. This is, ‘Right, how do we kick on again?’ I know Sue [Clark, managing director, SABMiller Europe, to whom Miller will now report] is extremely excited – she runs all the markets in Europe, and you can see her eyes lighting up. I think this is a great story for British beer. If we can take Meantime around the world under the SAB capability, I think it’s really a great news story for Britain.”

SAB Miller pretty much immediately sold them to Asahi, who did absolutely nothing with the brand and sales have been flat (and quality has been crap) for years now.

Still, trebles all round for the founders!

I did think something must have gone wrong for them to end up at that price. Beers ending up in Home Bargains is never a great sign for companies. It has been nice picking up 5 cans for a session and having change from 3 quid though.

Apologies for the shameless referral link but if anyone is into non-alcoholic beer, I highly recommend the Hazy Pale Gen 2.0 from Impossibrew: https://impossibrew.co.uk/a/refer-a-friend/redeem/bazakehurst/7991

They claim to have some woke-sounding science behind it to make you “feel the buzz” of real beer or something but to me it just tastes like delicious beer, and I can still drive/get up early with the baby after having 4.

I rated it a 4.0 on Untappd.

I've gone with the brewexport one. All import american beers, and their selection and service so far has been excellent so this should be good.

Did you get this?

I did and now I've been informed I've won a raffle, giving me the opportunity to pay £50 for a bottle of beer. I'm dubious to say the least.

Yep I did, although I didn’t get pulled out of that draw, I think there were only 12 bottles. If you don’t take it I’d be interested. It’s expensive for a beer but it was pretty much released as an exclusive (in the us). I’m not into beer reselling (too much hassle) but a bottle would cost a lot more than 50 to but usually as it wouldn’t be commercially available I think.I’d provably have it with my brother and dad on Xmas day.

Overtone have a Black Friday discount on at the moment, 15% off everything and free delivery.

They also have a 24 pack of pales and IPAs for £85 down from £108 , £72.25 with the discount.

Ordered up for my Xmas beers last night and added in the new TIPA as an Xmas day treat.

Have you guys heard about Sure Shot?
https://sureshotbrew.com/

Ex Cloudwater head brewer, pop culture references on the beer cans. I had a box from them a month or so ago after I saw them recommended on Twitter and they had a sale on at the time. It's all been pretty good but I quite enjoyed the Small Man's Wetsuit and Succulent Chinese Meal. There's a black friday mixed case on https://sureshotbrew.com/shop/black-friday-mixed-case/

Thanks for this recommendation. The day 2 imperial stout was really not my bag but days 1 and 3 have been amazing.

Glad you’re enjoying it. I think it’s a 50% IPAs, 25% stout, 25% fruit beer split. I enjoyed the stout, though I find triple IPAs a bit sweet usually I’m looking forward to trying that one.

Wow, that’s a pretty big name. Although that said, I’ve definitely seen less of them since Covid.

Did a beer tasting session with them at Thornbridge’s Peakender festival a few years back and they seemed like great people.

I'm still loving this NA beer. Got a big box for Christmas.

Yeah, Sureshot are a decent new addition to the Manc beer scene. They have a taproom now, right under Piccadilly Station and on the way to Cloudwater and Track tap rooms. Balance opening a taproom not too far away very soon too so it's a pretty healthy corner of town for beer fanciers.

Sureshot were very kind on their taproom opening day as everyone got a tote bag with a can, glass, stickers etc and, despite that being more than enough,  Lucy the taproom manager even allowed me to blag a couple of extra sets for my local tap room staff. James Campbell was knocking about too and had time for everyone so that was nice given how influential he has been to the modern UK beer scene (ex CW founder as well as head brewer).

Missed the annual Putty release again. Sold out in less than 20 minutes.

Classic.

It'll be available at your local beer shop though surely? Even my local here in the sticks is getting some again.

I thought the launch was Friday as that is when Beermoth have their kegs of it on?
