Have we done this yet?:

Firebrand Premium Czech Lager. You can get it in Thresher. Most guests I give it to remark on how good it is, unprompted. Twice while buying it I have been complemented on my choice (!) - apparently it's the only one actually brewed in the Czech Republic (in Thresher). Anyway, it's certainly been my favourite lager for the last year or so. Quite good value as well.

Not a big fan of Bock, I do however quite like Peeterman, the other new lager from Artois. Probably the best 4%er out there.

Yes they have this too, i do prefer Bock actually. Nice and malty and is a truly unique beer, far more flavoursome than Peeterman. It has a superb woody blend of chocolate and roasted coffee that contrasts with the exotic fruit aroma, balanced bitterness and dry vanilla finish. Also ABV 6.2% :(

Dare I say it, but Sainsburys 'Taste the Difference' Cologne-style lager is quite nice. Not exactly a real Kolsch, but nice nonetheless.

It is a lovely, refreshing beer with a light, sharp, spicy and citrusy lemon nose, similar to a Pilsner in many ways.

This guy above is surely taking the piss with his "I've read it out of a book" style descriptions of beer!

As for Peeterman, I had that for the first time over Christmas in a pub in Whitchurch. Never heard of it but for a 4% lager, it was lush.

I'm looking forward to my first pint in 24 days tonight. My local, a pub renown for its selection of Ales can't cope with Lagers too well but it has just got San Miguel on tap. I wll give it a go to see if things have improved. Otherwise its back to Old Ric from Uley Brewery.

Its bound to be though ain't it? Better than the UK stuff that is!

I like Asahi, never been to japan but Asahi in the UK does not taste like Stella. Stella in the UK does not taste like Stella!

I'm off on an all day session on friday to quite a few pubs up Gloucester Road in Bristol. Hoping to sample an array of beers that I've never had before. Here's hoping! :o

What's that for then? :D

For me, it's all about Warsteiner....on tap served in the proper glasses especially, but also in a can or a bottle....fantastic. What a shame the only pub I know in Bristol, make that the UK, that definitely sold it on tap has got rid (slap on the back of the head for the Cornubia)....but still, you get bottles in the odd Bargain Booze type shop, and my uncle lives in Germany so usually keeps my folks nicely stocked for whenever I visit :D

Apart from that, I haven't seen a mention of Lowenbrau yet....another stunning continental lager on tap. Nice glasses too! Bath Ales Organic is very nice, worth trying if you see it. Amstel is another one that lights up my eyes every time I enter a pub and see the tap. The Skinners one Chewy mentioned (from the Cornish brewery) is also decent. I'm looking forward to trying the Organic Brewhouse's effort very soon (micro-brewery in the back of beyond in Cornwall).

San Miguel is a standard choise for me these days...good to see it on offer a lot more and, for me, you rarely get a bad pint of it. Budvar and Staropramen are staples in my part of Bristol, and again you rarely get a bad pint IMO. My current favourite in cans is Heineken...obviously since they started importing it instead of brewing the old shite they did over here...lush. That's closely followed by old Bristol favourite (think St Paul's Carnival, Thekla, Blue Mountain) Red Stripe....both are again always damn fine on tap too.

Tsing Tao's good...Cobra's good...Kirin's good...Italian offerings Birra Moretti and Peroni (not Nastro Azzuro, one with a red label) are tasty...kept me happy in Rome anyway.

As for the usual suspects...Kronie is my choice if that's the best on offer, followed by Stella, though I did go off that a bit for a while...but I'll still drink it if the only other choices are Carling/Fosters/Carlsberg. I will fully admit to still drinking the odd pint or three of that unholy trinity to discerning lager drinkers occasionally...but that's when I'm going to the football, cos the choice in the pubs around the Liberty Stadium, Swansea is frankly poor.

To end my beer rant...look out for Summer Lightning, an ale brewed by Hopback Brewery....highly rated by those in the know and goes down very nice even if you're a staunch lager man like me....a few pints will get you a little :D

Is Gloucester Road still quite rough!?

Go to White ladies instead!

I will only worry about you, chewy.

Na, its not rough mate. Been to Whiteladies many times in the past and its just full of yuppy-student bars these days. Bores me to tears. ;)

Don't worry Benito, I'll look after myself when I get to Stokes Croft. By that time I'll be the lairy lager scum I occasionally get with too much beer in me! It could be the end! ;)

@Dai.........it takes a lager thread to get you back on this forum!! LOL, typical.......its for my birthday and you are getting slaughtered with me!
