This month's Edge's DS article(s) were great. I'm really looking forward to what Nintendo can do with this... even a simple idea of going to watch a pokemon movie and downloading the pokemon that you see on the screen sounds great.... not that'll I'll be going to see a pokemon film but for the kids you know...

Nintendogs, or whatever it's called now, looks like great fun... giving voice commands and chucking frisbees using the stylus... New ways to play.

Any word yet on US compatibility?

Just got this from VGP:

We are going to try and get all machines out on the first day but we are still trying to get our alloctaion numbers firmned up as we have been told there is a major shortage and we will stop taking preorders later today. We will be updating all when we get our numbers but to be honest right now things are looking grave as to how many we will be receiving for launch. If you are in the allocation of our first batch than yours will ship out on release whather games are in or not Thanks

:(

I pre-ordered mine last week I think (from VG+).

I also emailed them about making sure they sent the unit out rather than waiting for some of the games, and also about the fact that the prices had dropped on the website since I ordered.

The email I got back sounded like there was limited numbers, but I don't recall it sounding as grave as that email.

(though I may be completely mistaken)

I'll check my email account later, unfortunately I can't check it at work cos they block me accessing my hotmail account.

I'm certainly trying to prepare myself for the fact that I may not get a DS on Launch day.

Why?

Because I'd much prefer it just to be a bunch of mini-games, rather than a proper game.

Just some pick-up-and-play stuff to keep me entertained on the train. Nothing I have to keep coming back to in order to complete or something.

Though I guess it depends on what your interpretation/definition of "proper game" is.

From what I've read Feel the Magic is about 30 or so minigames, that you play through to advance the (completely daft) story.

There are apparently plenty of extras to make it replayable tho....and it has the greatest music this side of the Billy Hatcher theme :(

The VG+ web page for the DS hardware has been updated, saying:

THIS ITEM HAS BEEN PUT ON SOLD OUT STATUS DUE TO THE EXTREME SHORTAGE ON THE MARKET. ANYONE PREORDERING THIS ITEM AT THIS POINT CAN'T BE GUARANTEED DELIVERY ON RELEASE DATE. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO FILL ALL CURRENT PREORDERS ON RELEASE DATE AND WILL CONTACT ANY CUSTOMER THAT MAY BE AFFECTED BY THE SHORTAGE. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVEINCE THIS HAS CAUSED OUR CUSTOMERS

I put in a pre-order early, and havn't yet had an email saying that my order is in jeopardy.

I have emailed them seperately to see whether my preorder is likely to be shipping at launch, but will probably try to buy elsewhere just incase. And hey, if I get two I'm sure it'll be easy to sell on without a loss!

I put my pre order in for one in the middle of july so i`d be very suprised if i don`t get one from the first batch. And for the people who did pre order early at the unconfirmed £140 price and haven`t seen there pre order prices changed yet, i mailed VG+ and said you will be charged at the new price when it ships :(

I guess the problem for us at the moment is we just don't know what sort of service VG+ are going to get from Nintendo sales or their distros. Based on how things normally are, priority goes to larger specialist retail chains (EB, CompUsa, Bestbuy etc) and the smaller indies, especially known exporters aren't likely to get their fair share.

VG+ might have 100's if not 1000's of pre-orders (largely from Europe) but may only get 10's to ship at launch.

Fingers crossed, though!

Mariokart release confirmed!

from eurogamer

Mario Kart DS has been given a firm launch date, with Nintendo today announcing that the title will debut in Japan on December 2nd, with its US release following on January 10th.

The announcement means that Japanese gamers can expect five first party titles to debut alongside the machine on December 2nd, with the remaining comprised of Made In Wario, Super Mario 64, Pokemon Dash, Intuitive Stroke and Band Brothers. As previously revealed, Pictochat and a demo of Metroid Prime: Hunters will be included with the console. A further seven third party titles are promised, including Sega's Feel The Magic.

Ten days earlier, the US launch on November 22nd will also launch with around a dozen titles, including Ridge Racer, Rayman, The Urbz, and some less well known titles such as Ping Pals, Sprung, and Asphalt Urban GT.

Europe, as ever, trails way behind the rest in Nintendo's thinking, and currently a mid March release is looking likely, albeit with what is almost certain to be a cracking line-up, with the likes of Advance Wars, Tiger Woods and Viewtiful Joe joining the other big hitters.

With the US launch less than three weeks away, we look forward to ploughing through the launch line-up in the run up to Christmas.

From the Gamespot preview it looks like you'll have to play through all the games in order first, unlocking them as stand alone minigames as you go. just like Wario Ware then.

Small update from VG+

They are expecting their initial shipment figures soon, and will email anyone affected as quickly as they can.

As for games, they aren't anticipating such availability problems at launch.

HTH!

ill have to give VG+ a try sometime. im always sceptical of ordering from new places. ill order my next game from em.

They're excellent mate, I've been getting most of my imports from them for ages (since before they had their website up even ;) ), and I've never had any problems

They're always really helpful, and I normally find postage takes between 4 days to a week from Canada to Scotland, which isn't half bad.
