The Watchtower - A thread for all comics

Jason Aaron is generally always good, his recent Avengers run probably being his weakest Marvel comic.

Southern Bastards was a great comic, sadly it was drawn by Jason Latour  - so him being a sexual predator, means that title has been hiatus for ages now.

New Dredd Case files day (number 41, fact fans!).

Great as always, but then I'm now so committed to buying them I couldn't quit if I tried :) . The two volumes I get each year (or is it three? Hmm, not sure) are not really enough, but I devour them nonetheless - especially so as the period we're on at the moment are all pretty new to me, so it's all good stuff.

Dark Web and it was shit, absolute top tier garbage. Its one of the things which I hated growing up reading comics and that was crossovers, especially shitty ones which drag on. Saving grace is the artwork at times.

What was the "big mark left on the marvel universe" ?

I know it's bollocks but curious to know.

Spoiler

Ben clone Spiderman is evil and becomes Chasm. Know he's in prison in Limbo. Limbo now has an embassy  in NYC. Zeb Well is poisoning the Spider-man franchise.

Where did you get Descender from? I thought it had been out of print for ages...

I am mildly irritated by the fact that I spent ages hunting down the Locke & Key hardbacks (Master Key edition?) and then an omnibus comes out a year later. FFS.

It's the preview for the next issue, but I'm not sure if lady is meant to be the same one in the previous issue which looks nothing like the cover.

Story is OK, but nothing has been on par with the Dark Horse stuff. Its got nice artwork though.

So turned out I was right, disappointing. That cover was a bait and switch.

Titan's reprint of the Forever War comics ended this week. It's probably the best comic adaptation of a novel I've read, the art is gorgeous.

someone posted the original (presumably) B&W version on a download site this week so I gave it a re-read. It's absolutely fucking fantastic, possibly even better than the colour version I already have. The art and the pacing and the layouts* are goddamn perfect but it just pops** a little bit more in B&W.

Like this page where the dialog shocks Mandella out of his internal monologue

What are your experience with Amazon shipping the big Omnibus volumes? Do they know how to pack them properly for safe arrival?

They are utter shite, just use Booksetc or Speedyhen - who are much cheaper usually anyway.

So many of these omnibus' (omnibi?) seem to sell out and go out of stock so quickly after release. And then the long wait for the next re-print. Was also looking for John Byrne Sensational She-Hulk but alas.

Have been looking at the Masterworks Series but Daredevil 15/16/17 together gets a bit expensive. But I do prefer the smaller size too. Thanks for the tip about the printing. Did see a video with the omnibus and the colours looked a bit overdone?

The Masterworks are ridiculously overpriced but they offer such a nice reading experience over the cumbersome omni’s, I really don’t paying the extra money for them.  Of course I wouldn’t buy every Marvel comic in Masterworks, I just buy the best of the best - Miller’s Daredevil for example and the soon to be reprinted first volumes of the FF and Amazing Spider-Man.

I save all the other stuff for Marvel Epic Collections, which are very soon getting modern runs in that format too.

Is the John Byrne FF run currently only available in the 2 big omnis?

And the Claremont/Byrne X-Men run?

The issues Byrne wrote are available in three masterworks which I think are all available to buy, with another volume out soon.

Claremont/Byrne’s X-Men is also available in three Epic collections and I expect the masterworks for them will be reprinted in the next year or so.

A mate of mine is having a second attempt at getting the first issue of his new comic a go, and I thought I'd just pop it up here. Lovely artwork (at least, I think so!) - very much in the Dan Dare/Eagle-esque way of doing things, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it:
