The Watchtower - A thread for all comics

Did anyone try Batman: Three Jokers this week?

I'm on the fence about it as i really should lessen my reading pile, but i am somewhat intrigued to how DC will probably fuck up the idea from a few years ago.

That said i am soooo enjoying all the content they have brought out for Dark Nights Death Metal as well as Joker War.

I downloaded the Webtoons app on my phone and now I'm hooked on a Korean romance comic about a beauty blogger in love with two ex - boyband members. My taste in entertainment sure is different these days.

I shall investigate said app.

In that case, may I recommend the following:

True Beauty (the one I mentioned above)

Let's Play! - Romantic comedy about a videogame designer, her YouTuber neighbour and lots of other amusing idiots.

Mage and Demon Queen - Malori keeps returning to fight up the tower of demons in the hope that the evil demon Queen will finally accept her love. Another romantic comedy with lots of JRPG tropes.

Love Advice From The Grand Duke Of Hell - That's right, another romantic comedy but leans more towards the bizarre comedy side.

Yes, I like reading romance comics, I am not ashamed to admit it (in this relatively anonymous Web forum anyway.)

I enjoy them too, Blue Flag volume 3 arrived today and that’s been a great read so far.

I was reading a horror comic on there about loads of people being trapped in a block of flats.

It wasn't great but was really entertaining and had some real "The Thing" vibes going on.

And then all of a sudden *poof* it was removed from the app mid story and i now have to use the slower scanlations to read it.

Anyone who has the app and loves a good fantasy story should check out Solo Levelling based on the light novels of the same name. It's fantastic in my opinion.

Read issue 1 of "We only find them when they're dead" by Al "Immortal Hulk" Ewing and published by Boom! Not alot has happened so far but it's set up a fairly interesting universe and the artwork by Simone Di Mei is awesome and reminds me of the story panels in Ultralabs Velocity games.

I liked the concept more than the actual comic tbh

I get that, I think this one is just setting up the concept though, I want to see where it goes

I'm reading a rather nice new manga called Fly Me To the Moon. A teenage boy gets hit by a truck. A pretty girl helps get him to help and he asks her out and before he collapses she says "Only if you marry me" and he shouts yes. He doesn't see her again for years and can't get her out of his mind. She shows up at his door (He's 18 at this point) one day and says "You ready to get married then?" and they do.

Totally stupid and unrealistic storyline but it's a totally sweet and nice story about two people learning how to be married. There's obviously some backstory bubbling away. She won't say why she married him and it looks like she was homeless when she arrived at his apartment.

There's an entire page devoted to explaining the different sort of down in quilts (They end up with their own beds). Holding hands becomes known as an "All you can hold buffet"

It's dumb and nice.

I've started reading two new mangas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rascal_Does_Not_Dream_of_Bunny_Girl_Senpai

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Slightly lewd in parts (But nothing extreme). A very interesting premise

Sakuta Azusagawa's life takes a turn for the unexpected when he meets teenage actress Mai Sakurajima, dressed as a bunny girl, wandering through a library and not being noticed by anyone else there. Mai is intrigued that Sakuta is the only one who can see her, as other people are unable to see her, even when she is dressing normally or attempting to stay away from celebrity life. Calling this phenomenon "Adolescence Syndrome", Sakuta decides to solve this mystery, while continuing to get closer to Mai and meeting other girls who suffer from "Adolescence Syndrome" as well.

and

Kuzumi-kun, Can't You Read the Room

About Erika, the most popular girl in school who can't help but be interested in the quietest nobody in the school, Kuzumi-kun. It's chapter by chapter of Erika doing stupid things as she tries to deny the attraction, Kuzumi "apparently" not noticing and her slowly learning more about him. He loves birds so I'm guessing he's gonna be an alright fella.

Added both to my list thank you :)

I've noticed the comic talk has died down of late in here, is that because people arnt reading as much or just nothing worth talking about?

What are people reading at the moment?

I'm still going through Dark Knights Death Metal, X-Men & X-Force, Fire Power and recently trying to catch up on Die.

I finished Empyre which was ok but was outshone by the X-Men spinoff title and i didn't bother with any of the Aftermath stuff as i really cannot be bothered to spend out for them.

I read at least 50 issues a week but nothing really recent as buying single issues is just too expensive.

I am currently reading Saga Book 3, Stargirl by Geoff Johns, Uncanny X-Force omnibus and Berserk deluxe vol 3.

Saga just gets better and better, Stargirl is a lot of fun, Berserk is amazing, but sadly I am really not enjoying X-Force and to be honest I can’t think of any Rick Remender books I really like.

The shine is wearing off the x-books. They're fine, just not noteworthy. New books pop up the same as the last. And where the fuck has Moira gone?

I mean, X-Factor and Hellions are alright. But they just don't really go anywhere. New Mutants was good every other issue, with the crazy fun space stuff, but now it's just the bland. Marauders and X-Force had a strong start moving the whole storyline along, but after a couple of issues they've settled into a tedious groove. Excalibur was already dead to me and the only book didn't restart when things were dry.

the proper X-men book has no momentum. That's not even because of the gap. It just jumps to one thing to the next.

Fair play to Wolverine. That's quite fun. Some funny lines and vampires.

And it's really hard to not follow them all. Especially after the recent lull in books, tricking me into reading more of them. That Swords of X looks shite too so I'm hoping I can knock them on the head at that point.

Of stuff I am enjoying, Hulk obvs ... but anyone read Far Sector? That weird Green Lantern book. That's been great. And Star Trek : Year Five has been good fun.

Empyre was decent but just fizzled out at the end. Marauders has picked up a lot now they have Kitty back

Not counting 2000ad, the last thing I read was Valerian vol 8 - Heroes of the Equinox.  It was absolutely mindblowingly good, but it was from 1978, so not sure it's any use for people looking for new comic talk.

We don't need to talk about new comics, happy to discuss any old stuff I am.

I have the full set of those but I've only read the first couple so far. They're often on sale at Comixology too
