I wouldnt be suprised if edge gave it an 8 you know, to be 'on the cutting edge of what is videogaming' or some other bullshit.

I wouldn't be surprised. Not because its worth an 8 (it may be "only" an 8, although I doubt it from what i have read/ seen/ heard) but because Edge sometimes has a snobby attitude with big releases, and mark games "controversially".

Not as much as they used to maybe, but reading the last few you still get a glimmer of that "attitude" bubbling below the surface.

By the way, I kept looking for the "record film" option on Campaign mode. It wasn't anywhere in the Theater (sic) mode in the pause menu, and I was a bit disappointed. It's not in campaign mode in the final version? Oh noes!

Then, just before I went to bed, I was in the main menu and went to the Theater option. It had automatically saved the entirety of my campaign play thus far.

Less a fawning defence, more an attempt to balance out the stupidly over the top criticism that game came in for.

I don't think it came under "stupidly over the top criticism", except from the people who say "worst game ever" about any game they don't like. Halo 2 - in single player - lacked the experimentation, sense of freedom, atmosphere, etc. of the original. It was a fundamentally different experience, and the worst for it. It was still a very good game, but never approached the stratospheric heights of the original. Multi-player was awesome, of course, but that's a different matter.

Yeah, I damn near creamed myself when I realised that. And the files aren't even very big (7 Mb for over an hour's play), so you could easily save your whole campaign, then edit together all the highlights from whichever angle you please. This is all be ten times more cool in multiplayer.

Its like comparing all the zeldas with Ocarina. They will never be as good as Ocarina, because that is a classic... The same goes with Halo. No Halo will be as good as the first Halo because that was something none of us had experienced before. Halo still remains the best shooter in any system for me, along with the first Half Life. I will not go and compare Halo 3 with Halo, that is just stupid... The memories and sensation of the first Halo cannot be countered by anything new.

Its a sentimental thing mostly, you know...?

Other games have had sequels which are considered better than the first game to use the name. No one had played a good FPS before?, maybe on console...

You should probably use a different example, what with Ocarina of Time being the fourth game in the series and all... I do agree with you though - the memories you have of games are a large part of how you feel about them, and whilst games can be better, your rose-tinted memories blind you of it.

No FPS on the PCs other than the HLs can stand their own against Halo... Take it or leave it but that is the sad truth... :)

Anyway, more impressions people, please.

I meant the Zeldas after the Ocarina obviously.... :D

so am i right in saying you can fly through the whole level taking as many snaps as you like which you can then upload to Bungie.net? So in effect you can create your own "Deidre's photo casebook" of the chiefs adventures?

Essentially yes, but there is a "space" limit in terms of the photos you can upload. Of course, you can always save them once they're on Bungie Net and upload them somewhere else.

so, has anyone been MEGA BANNED, as per pro-g's exclusive news, then?

I'd been playing for about 2 hours when I checked my messages. I had one from Microsoft.

Turns out it was a recall notice for the steering wheel, but it worried me for a while. I'm sure they did it on purpose.

But no, I haven't been banned. Don't really think anyone will be.

Has anyone seen any high street 360 bundles that include Halo 3?

As of Wednesday i reckon every retailer will offer one, im just a little nervous that there may be a short term hardware shortage as a result of this, is that being paranoid or unrealistic?

Panda reckoned that I wouldn't complete Halo 2 on Legendary before Wednesday which I've now taken as some kind of personal challenge. This has involved 3-4 hours play a night and not much in the way of sleep but nevermind that.

So, halfway through and most of the shit sections out of the way. Hurrah!

Bet I'm enjoying it on Heroic more than you are!
