there's absoloutely no way they could do that. Extremely enthusiastic hardcore gamers that MS love so much, find a shop and legitimately buy it before the date. They haven't done anything wrong.

Cue an astonishingly large amount of lawsuits if they did attempt such a thing...even if you did attempt to go online with the thing, it isn't the buyers fault if stores sell it early.

Why would they want to ban people anyway? So a few people will be bit better/more experienced come launch day. So what? At least they'll have some people testing the servers just before launch.

And talk of banning until Dec 9999 is even more stupid. You could almost understand a ban until next Wednesday. But why forever?

It's not great news for anyone who gets it early. Play it at all and then connect to Xbox Live in the future and get banned.

Then what the fuck are press types meant to do if/when they get promos?!

Presumably those won't be launch day only, even if the first review is officially embargoed for all but OXM.

Someone on Bungie Net called the Microsoft support line in the States and was told that there will be no banhammer for early play of a legitimate retail copy.

There will be no banhammer for people playing the Yarrs either unless the launch of Halo 3 includes some new form of fw detection routine.

Im expecting it as the ban hammers always seem to coincide with Halo releases...
