"As luck would have it, if you go to the Argos website and do a reserve for store pick up on Halo 3, take the number and make your way down to your local store, you can get your hands on Halo 3 early. I know, because it's sitting here on my desk. Don't try to pay at the machine though, as it will come up as not for sale. Instead, take your number to an ordinary till and if providence smiles upon you, you will walk away with a nice shiny copy of Halo 3 a week early."

I did go up to a till, they said it wasn't available.

I'm back at work. 5.30pm can't come soon enough. I will provide impressions but no spoilers (at all) later. I'm currently asking Bungie whether or not I can play MP before release on a legitimate retail copy without them wielding the banhammer.

THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE!

popped into one of the Guildford Branches to try and buy it (didn't pre order) but they said it was out of stock so I pre-ordered and they said I could collect on monday. guessing if any faxes are heading out of head office they will have done so by that time...

Rumours abound that all Argos stores have now had a fax ordering them not to sell it early even with reservation. Still worth a shot, though. Pick the most clueless looking sales assistant.

I have full confidence that the Sales Assistants in my local Argos will completely ignore the fax. Either through illiteracy, apathy or general ineptitude.

Just been down there and they don't get today's delivery until 5 so will try then.

Also, a third Yarr has just gone up on binaries.

How much do you want for it?

Mate just walk out of work and go home to play it.

Annoyingly my boss has just gone on holiday and I'm in charge for a week. This afternoon I've got an incredibly time-sensitive task to do, and there's no way I can get out of it. But at 5.30pm, I'm gone.

I dare say word will get back to them that Argos have been spackers and broken street date, but regardless, you can hardly be banned for coming into possession of a perfectly legal copy of the game before release, surely?

Nonetheless, I've asked as a courtesy more than anything else.

Tried it on in my local. They didn't even have the stock in, so it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Ho hum. Hopefully one of the smaller retailers will shit themselves at the prospect of lost sales to Argos and start letting it go out the door.

No definitely not. Think of the consequences.

Too horrible to imagine, I might catch something speaking to an Argos employee...

EDIT: Arseface, just went through to reserve and it says Monday to Wednesday for collection. Probably not worth it anyway, not going to be anywhere near my 360 apart from tonight so buying it now will just ruin the next 6 days when I can't play it as I'll just be wanting to play...
